Sevrilis
Hi all, Cant for the life of me find a guide that works or a kext i can download to get the intel 950 gma working on my Toshiba A200-AH1. If someone could attach their working kext file for an intel 950 that would be greatly appreciated. Sevrilis
Bump Anyone? this is a very common type of video card, im suprised there is not a kext for it yet, maybe all of the devs here have better laptops by now =P Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212031-intel-950-on-snow-leopard-1062-hazard/#findComment-1421642 Share on other sites
JavaKrypt
God, I wrote a reply and it never posted. You have to use the normal kexts from Leopard, they work fine. However you will need to set the colour after you boot to GRB1998, and you will see lag with screensavers. But the res is fixed. I've uploaded them to Medafire. Install them through kext utility. Only use the ones in the archive. Installing the Leopard IntelGMA950.kext breaks the graphics. It turns the screen black/pixelated after rebooting. Leaving the original and using the old kexts/plugins/bundles, it works fine. http://www.mediafire.com/?kmtgzk4ywwz Just a Q, does your About This Mac and Screen capture work on this release? I can't for the life of me figure out why these won't work. About this mac logs me out, and screencapture through cmd+shift+3/4 makes the camera noise but does nothing else, and grab.app just selects and actually makes the tiff image, but it is totally white - nothing else. No actual image. (I'm working on finding out how to enable permanently QE/CI in Snow. I'll update this thread when I find a working solution) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212031-intel-950-on-snow-leopard-1062-hazard/#findComment-1421808 Share on other sites
Sevrilis
Wow thanks! those 950 kexts did the job, my graphics are working properly now. I cant believe those kexts are not linked in some kext database somewhere and all those complicated intel 950 guides that dont work, yet your simple copy these kexts into your extensions folder works great =) Yeah my about mac and screen capture seem to be working. At least it did the camera nose when I hit alt+shift+3 I am using Hazard 10.6.2 release. I used the following install options: 10.6.1 update 10.6.2 update 10.5 rc3 cameleon boot loader (forget what the version actually said) Legacy Kernel Elliot cmos support SMbios reset laptop features (battery meter, etc) This gave me fully functional sound, laptop battery, and now with your kexts 950 graphics. Now I just need: Atheros wireless (I think its 5007 or 5006eg), sleep, some sort of power saver (if i leave it for like 20 mins it will lock up, unless i turn off power save options), and finally Web Cam (it appears to turn on, but no picture appears in photo booth or at install). Have you any further miracles? =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212031-intel-950-on-snow-leopard-1062-hazard/#findComment-1422762 Share on other sites
JavaKrypt
With wireless I selected nothing. then I manually edited the Info.plist file inside FamilyNetworkFamily.kext. Search the web for your card specific, find out your device ID and keep searching you will find it. Wireless for me worked out the box, but my Ethernet didn't (Required the manual editing). I can't help with the others I'm afraid. Mines all working Out the box. With webcam though give a application called Macam a go, I've had it display images before, but not to the native quality/30fps my webcam supports. Unfortunately the company don't make native OSX drivers I'm working on getting QE/CI working now (If it isn't for you), so I might upload some new kexts in a few, just testing them out myself OH GOD YES! I got QE/CI to work with these kexts. Replace these with the ones you have if you don't have them working. There are a few ways to test. If your screensaver is laggy, you don't have it working. If your menu bar isn't translucent. You don't have it working. If you can open chess, but not move, you don't have it enabled. If you open iMovie and get a error about graphics not support, you don't have it working. If you tick yes to any of these, replace these kexts (all of them): Kexts.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212031-intel-950-on-snow-leopard-1062-hazard/#findComment-1422825 Share on other sites
Sevrilis
Hm that last set of kext files doesnt seem to work. I put them in with kext helper b7 and now it freezes at the apple loading screen. I can reinstall with the first set of kext files that worked. I was able to move in chess, but the screen saver is slightly laggy maybe, I dont have imovie installed to test, and the bar is not translucent however isnt there an option that you can turn that on and off? Something I notice is that I am not able to see videos, I have VLC and div x installed and I figure I should be seeing video. I can hear the sound when it plays but the video area is blank. I think this may have to do with the graphics drivers only partially working? Side note: I got it to stop over heating by using - http://redirectingat.com/?id=292X457&u...L_32_64.pkg.zip Voodoo Power 1.2.3 specially moded by Andy Vandijck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212031-intel-950-on-snow-leopard-1062-hazard/#findComment-1422923 Share on other sites
JavaKrypt
Try using Kext Utility and not Kext helper b7. I've tried installing kexts with helper and it didn't do it right. Though if you have the option to enable and disable you might be partly right with the drivers. I never had that option until using those kexts. Try using only one of the bundles/plugins, mix it up a bit and see what works best for your machine. Sevrilis
Wow that worked. I cant believe the problem was using Kext Helper b7 instead of Kext Utility. I used kext utility and loaded those kext files one by one, rebooted, and now I get full video playback through VLC, my bar is translucent, and the screen saver is not laggy at all. Thanks a bunch for your efforts. It does make me wonder now, how many kexts I have tried that would have worked that appeared to not work simply because I have been using Kext Helper b7 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212031-intel-950-on-snow-leopard-1062-hazard/#findComment-1423004 Share on other sites
JavaKrypt
Glad to help, and yeah I know what you mean. I must have reinstalled about 3 times because of problems with kext helper, haha. They say it's tuned to work with Snow but it obviously isn't somewhere. I still only use that for Leopard, with Kext Utility on Snow. And screen capture works fully, actually capturing the screen without just making the noise/plain white image. I'll see if I can help with the other issues you're having if you haven't fixed them already. Sevrilis
The heating issue seems to be gone, ive left it running for hours now playing videos and its working great. I am going to say that voodoopower 1.2.3 worked. The main issue I am having now is that my wifi is not working, that is the biggest problem. Its a Toshiba A200-AH1 laptop with a built in Atheros 5006EG wireless G. I have tried AtherosInjector and AtherosFix.kext files with Kext Utility with no luck. Other issues that remain are: Webcam (havnt looked into this one yet), Sleep, Power Save (going to see if voodoopower fixed this too or not) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212031-intel-950-on-snow-leopard-1062-hazard/#findComment-1423049 Share on other sites

Sevrilis
Both of those didnt work, there was a link from one of them that had something Chun Nan did, the directions were horribly difficult to follow as things were not explained clearly, but I got through it, got the wireless "fan" to show up but it will not turn on, and so will not connect. I dont know if thats going to work either. It seems no one is having luck with Snow Leopard only tiger and some few in leopard with Atheros 5006eg Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212031-intel-950-on-snow-leopard-1062-hazard/#findComment-1423249 Share on other sites
JavaKrypt
When you installed Snow, did you select any specific network drivers? Even though that are for Ethernet and not wireless? Sevrilis
I have tried selecting various network and wireless drivers at install with no success. I have also tried installing with no network or wireless drivers, neither option works.
