does vanilla kernal = safe software updates?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

A bit confused about this....

What kind of install method needs to be done in order to be able to safely use apple updates, just one using a vanilla kernal?

My hackintosh will be on a PM55 motherboard with i7 processor so from what I have read I should be able to use a retail 10.6.2 DVD to install osx with a bootloader (chameleon by the looks of things). If I do this method will that be ok for apple updates? Or can it not be done?

Thanks for any help,

Matt

Always check on sites like InsanelyMac if it's safe to update to a newer version. Remember, you're not running an authentic Apple machine and you never know what Apple comes up with.

So no guarantees, sorry.

I always recommend using TM to create a backup just in case the update porks your installation. This is what I did before each update.
