I'm planning to get Gigabyte EP45-UD3R motherboard for my new pc. I have 80GB IDE hard disk. So I would like to know if it is possible to install Snow Leopard on IDE (ATA) rather than SATA.

Should not make any problems if you have less/equal 2 GB RAM installed.

If more you will get Kernel Panic.

To avoid that (if oyu have more than 2 GB RAM) you can give kernel parameter maxmem=2048 at boottime for the first install.

Or use some prepared Boot CDs with an ATA Fix kext which will preloaded and avoid KP also. Same after install - you need an ATA Fix ( in /EXTRA ) to avoid KP.

It depends on the driver used. Older ones have a bug that causes crashes on systems with 4GB RAM or more.

There's a sticky post about it in this forum.
