tuck1989
I recently installed SL to my asus p6t Deluxe V2 with some success using a sata to usb adapter. However, the one issue I'm having is that Avid media composer cannot activate on my computer. I called their tech support, and was told that the software uses my networking card's mac address to activate, and that it could not get that information. I'm guessing I need to specify my mac address for one of my network cards, but I've tried modifying my smbios file without success. Any ideas? westwaerts
tell us more about your system, more about kexts you use in extra? or S/L/E Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/205945-snow-leopard-problems-with-software-activation/#findComment-1377866 Share on other sites
tuck1989
Hi, Thanks for the fast reply. I'm using a hidden efi partition. In extra/extensions, I have AHCIportinjector, applertc, disabler, ioahciblockstorageinjector, nullcpupowermanagement, openhaltrestart, voodhda, fakesmc and platformuuid. In extra I also have a custom compiled dsdt.aml and an smbios.plist. I'm using the following hardware asus p6t deluxe v2 gtx 260 (with efi strings) sata hd with ahci enabled wusb600n linksys wifi card. Also using chameleon rc3, with pcefi 10.3 boot file. I've added the same custom uuid to the platformuuid kext and my smbios file, and that uuid shows up in system profiler. I believe the issue is involving the mac addresses of my networking hardware. I was told that avid uses them to generate a custom machine id for activating their software, and I'm wondering if something on my system is autogenerating mac addresses for my wifi and ethernet hardware which is preventing that. I also believe the software uses whatever the lowest bsd activated interface is (ie en0 or en1). For some reason, the first interface I use (my wifi) is en2. Is there a way to rename the bsd interfaces, and/or inject a custom mac address into those interfaces? westwaerts
I guess it has to do with your UUID. Actually i didnt find the full truth, how it is generated. Some people just edit their UUID ( last block) with their Ethernet-ID Some calculate it via an app called MactoUuidGenerator Some just use the generic Injection of Chameleon Some use a patched Chameleon ( Rekursor ) to inject a specific UUID, which is recalculated by OSX Try to search a little app called LMHOSTID, run it, and see for errors. ( I used it in Leopard so dont blame me if it doesnt run in SL) Mainly Adobe, Maya Products use FlexIM Licensing If you use PlatformUUID or UUID.kext edit it in one of the described ways Same with smbios.plist, if you use it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/205945-snow-leopard-problems-with-software-activation/#findComment-1381271 Share on other sites
tuck1989
Thanks so much for your help! Solved the issue by generating a custom dsdt and adding some code so that my network interfaces would register as "builtin" on boot, allowing media composer to recognize it. For anyone with a similar issue, google "how to set the network adapter to en0 with dsdt" and look at the project osx page for a detailed guide. Thanks again! But the link that I found through google (which you posted on) didn't really clear things up for me. If you remember what exactly you did still, could you pass it along. Thanks a million!
