hughythomas
Hi guys! Would someone be so kind as to help me? I have an early 2006 Mac Pro in a recording studio running Snow Leopard used primarily for music production on Logic 9. Unfortunately, it seems like the mac can't keep up with the raw dsp processing power required by my mixes at the moment with constant audio drop outs/glitches and bitcrushing. I also own a custom built watercooled PC which I built as a gaming rig. The key specs of this rig are as follows: Asus P5K-E Wifi/Ap Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 4.40Ghz 4GB Corsair DDR2 RAM @ 976Mhz 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 (w Win 7 x64) The 2006 Mac pro is: 2x 2.66 Intel Xeon CPUs 6GB 667Mhz FBDIMM 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 "Music" HD (purely for audio recording) Before I go out and spank £3,000 on a new Mac Pro to try and ease the burden of my professional audio work on my current mac I would like to see if going hackintosh would be viable. My question is - I would MUCH prefer to install Snow Leopard on the PC on a seperate HD which I have here as Win 7 is already installed on the 1TB sammy in the gaming rig. However, I haven't found any guides covering this. Is it even possible? All the guides that I have found refer to using Chameleon booter and partitioning your current HD. I am not keen on doing this and would prefer to install to seperate disk - or is partitioning your windows HDD the only way? Thanks in advance for any replies! adamsweeting
To keep things super simple just change the boot priority of your hard disks in the BIOS. That way you don't have to do anything fancy with bootloaders to correctly boot the two OSs. That's what I do. BTW - I use my watercooled machine as a Logic DAW - your machine should run Logic well. hughythomas
Great! Thanks for the reply my man! So what you are saying is I install OS X SL on my spare HD (probably without the windows HD even connected) and then once SL is up and running, plug the windows HD back in and then manually select which OS I want to boot simply from the BIOS each time? That sounds dandy as I am much more familiar with BIOS than bootloaders and such having never done this before! Again thanks for the reply Tom Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203040-dual-booting-win-7-x64-os-x-sl-106-on-seperate-hdds-for-music-production/#findComment-1364672 Share on other sites
