I got leopard running fairly well on 10.5.8 and wondered if anyone has gotten snow running on this awesome little machine? working in 10.5.8 1366x768 on GMA950 with QX/QE accel Sleep/Wake Sound Ethernet Time Machine Not working properly Battery Indicator Build in wireless (Solved by Replacing with broadcomm 1510/half minipci and works good now) I really want to run snow leopard as I've heard the built in atheros 9285 would work but I don't know where to begin. jaibri2
I Installed Today Snow Leopard 10.6 here is what I do Restore DVD Image to USB 16 Gb Delete IOATAfamily kext from S/L/E Use "My Hack installer v 1.0" wich prepares usb to be booteable and select PS2controller, AppleIntelPIIXATA & IOATA family kext. Everything keep it as it is Install from USB RUN from USB and change to new installed partition at the bootloader (chameleon), boot with cpus=1 Go to SL first boot setup Delete again IOATA Family Kext in S/L/E Install My Hack installer again in SL installation, select the same config but in this case DESELECT Framebufferdisabler.kext because it wont let GMA 950 work Restart , boot this time from your vaio disk And that`s it It detects Atheros as AIRPORT but no wireless networks detected Bluetooth works No working sound Display is 1024 x 600 no QE/CI I did everything I can about establishing 1366 x768 QE CI , including those posts on NB205 (kext packages, scripts nothing worked for me), so guys I invite you to post every little advance , there is not much VAIO W OSX posts, so lets make one like toshiba 200-205 post thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/198373-snow-on-sony-vaio-w-netbook-anyone/#findComment-1338313 Share on other sites
jaibri2
Well I give up for now I think GMA950.kext need to be re-edited for vaio`s GMA 950 27AE, I tried to Install Modified 950 Kexts from toshiba`s kexts, even apply some scrpts to modify GMA 950 kext, I found that modified 950 kext are files who were modified with an hex editor and use Find/Replace to modify the 27A2 for 27AE. I modify Boot.com.plist to "Boot Graphics" "Yes", Graphics Mode (even this is for vesa) to 1366x768x32, since GMA 950 works great on iATKOSv7 10 .5.7 I even tried to install voodoo kernel (hahaha) obviously with no success I really think this is a great machine for hackintoshing, I have 10.5.8 working great, only problem is Wireless, I would really like to try snow Leopard If any of you know how to modify GMA 950 for 27ae devices that work with Vaio W It would be wonderfull Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/198373-snow-on-sony-vaio-w-netbook-anyone/#findComment-1339134 Share on other sites
Bucher
I am having a difficult time as well with a new VPCW121AX Sony VAIO Netbook w model. In 10.5.8 I can't get the display to 1366x768... stuck with the stretched display - 1024x768, the usual no wireless and no ethernet. In 10.6 it boots thru the pinwheel, then when it is supposed to go to the select language, I lose the display. It is there and I can select and then quit by memory, but I can't see it to run it. I have also taken an external disk install and plugged it in, but it goes blank again at boot. (once again it is there, the display is just off). I have attempted numerous work arounds-still no luck. Anyone have a suggestion? How did you get to the language screen? jaibri2
Hi Bucher Is great to know someone is joining efforts to make Vaio W work Let`s get to the point If you want to get 10.6 installed with 1024 x768 no CI/QE, no sound and pretty much anything follow this guide http://www.hackint0sh.org/f217/89878-2.htm The step you need to do I think is to install Framebufferdisabler kext on "my_hack installer version 1" this prevents the vaio to lose display (step 2 of this guide) so you can go to the SL first boot setup ps ignore enabling usb legacy since vaio w doesn`t have that option ps2 it`s very important to delete IOATA family kext to boot without a kernel panic, I replace it with the IOATAfamily kext and applepXII on "myhackinstaller v 1" On the other hand, if you want a vaio w working fairly well Install iATKOS v7 (10.6.7) boot with cpus=1 Install with this options voodoo kernel 9.7.0 GMA 950 USB PS2 controller with trackpad plugin Works display 1366x768 QE/CI Sound Bluetooth Battery Sleep Dont Work Wifi ( i use usb wifi with ralink chipset for now) I am having a difficult time as well with a new VPCW121AX Sony VAIO Netbook w model. venicevice
I'm eager to get this as well on a pink VPCW111XX Netbook. Has anyone been successful with a fully functional system? This link has me inspired to try the S10 Snow Leopard Enabler installer: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=199415 Does anyone know of a good guide for 'howto' and / or collection of working drivers for this system? What has been the best methods for getting this to boot? MODEL: vpcw111xx pcg-4t1L mobile intel 945 express chipset Atheros WiFi 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN: atheros AR9285 wireless network adapter Atheros AR8132 PCIe fast ethernet controller 160GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive 1GB DDR2 533MHz RAM / 512 KB L2 Cache, 667 MHz Bus Speed Built-in Motion Eye™ camera and microphone Connections - 2 x USB 2.0, VGA, Headphone, Microphone, RJ-45 (LAN) Intel Atom N280 1.66 GHz Processor Intel High Definition Audio Intel Mobile GMA 950 (total available graphics memory 250MB max.) 10.1 LCD (1366 x 768) LED Backlight Display with XBRITE-ECO technology Memory Card Reader - One Memory Stick® Duo (MS Duo) media slot with MagicGate™ and One Secure Digital (SD) media slot / Stereo Bluetooth A2DP Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR ricoh memory stick disk device / ricoh sd/mmc disk device / toshiba mk1655gsx Here's my revised version of the above instructions: Restore DVD Image to a USBdrive, run the following commands so you can see hidden files: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE killall Finder Delete IOATAfamily kext from System/Library/Extensions Use "myHack_Installer_1.0_RC4.1_r55" to prepare USBdrive to be bootable and select PS2controller AppleIntelPIIXATA & IOATA family kext. (Everything keep it as it is) Boot to your USBdrive and install OSX like normal to a GUID partition on the Sony VPCW111XX Reboot to your USBdrive, but change to new installed partition at the bootloader (chameleon), Go thru SL first boot setup Delete IOATA Family Kext again from System/Library/Extensions Run "My Hack installer" again to your new installed partition, and select: PS2controller AppleIntelPIIXATA & IOATA family kext. DESELECT Framebufferdisabler.kext (because it wont let GMA 950 work) Restart , boot this time from your vaio disk Profit. AND THE VERDICT IS: It did not detect Atheros as AIRPORT Bluetooth detected (not tested) No working sound Display is 1024 x 768 (no QE/CI that I can tell) "About This Mac" does not work 10.6.1 and 10.6.2 with the 'homemade' mach_kernel do not destroy the install, but don't change the above results. Anyone have some ideas on what to do next? THANKS!!! jaibri2
NO QE/CI on Snow Leopard on vaio W I`ve tried to enable QE/CI with correct resolution (1366x768) with these methods Hex edit AppleIntelGMA950.kext and AppleIntelFramebuffer (look for 86 80 A2 27 and replace it with 86 80 AE 27) and add 0x27AE8086 at the info.plist/IOPCIPrimaryMatch/ of both kexts Add Intel EFI String at com.apple.boot.plist Add Patched DSDT from my previous iAtkos V7 10.5.7 install Run Script 27ae.sh to patch AppleIntelGMA950.kext and AppleIntelFramebuffer Install previous Patched Kexts of devices with the 27AE ID GMA 950 like Toshiba NB200 or AspireOne Nothing seems to work , the best result I can get is to have a gray screen, sometimes turns to white screen, then flashes and then turns to black, I even Tried to connect an external monitor (1650x1050 max resolution) but I can only get a "Invalid Input" message. I have Installed iATKOS v7 and updated to 10.5.8 with iDeneb combo upgrade on another HDD , the GMA950 that comes with iAtkos is the only one that seems to work on vaio W, So I opened AppleIntelGMA950.kext and AppleIntelFramebuffer and I can see that they have been Hex edited with 86 80 AE 27 on the binaries and have been added the 0x27AE8086 at the info.plist/IOPCIPrimaryMatch/, so I can`t understand why doesn`t work when I try to Edit the Snow Leopard GMA950 exactly the same way. It seems that iATKOS v7 does something else besides the patch of the GMA 950 in order to work on 10.5.6 because even the EFI Intel String is not needed on IATKOS in order to work. Don`t know what else to do, I started to doubt if vaio W has a 0x27AE ID, but on my IATKOS V7 (10.5.7) install on system profiler says that is 0x27AE ID rev 003. Any help Will be much appreciated Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/198373-snow-on-sony-vaio-w-netbook-anyone/#findComment-1370137 Share on other sites

litium
I've installed iDeneb 1.4. No ethernet nor wifi. Bluetooth works, sound works, mousepad and keyboard works. Screen resolution is 1024x600. No QE/CI. Will try iatkos v7 today. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/198373-snow-on-sony-vaio-w-netbook-anyone/#findComment-1427623 Share on other sites
lotech
iatkos v7 works well - no wifi or ethernet but otherwise it seems to be stable. Some sleep issues and the card reader is a no go. I've managed to install SL 10.6.0 via myhack, again no wifi or ethernet and GFX & sound need some kexts to get working. I've since given up - no luck with the unique GMA950 config on the W - have switched back to iatkos 10.5.7 (and then upgraded to 10.5.8) and it seems good. Update - Ethernet (Atheros AR8132) works using the drivers from here - http://code.google.com/p/iats/ I pulled my W apart and found the wireless card for upgrade, as I'm sure someone else is keen to know what they're looking for heres some pictures... lotech
Just to confirm - my Vaio is a VPCW126AG, which is identical from the US VPCW111XX (1.6Ghz, GMA950, 1366x768). Some hardware info - again if I had had this info when I started it would have been useful. The wifi card circled. The card up close. Mini PCI-Express. lotech
So I purchased a new PCI-E wireless card (GIGABYTE GN-WS32L-RH) and attempted to replace the current one. Unfortunately it didn't detect in OS-X or Windows 7 - although sticking the old one back in worked straight away. So the bad news is I doubt you can install a new card in these units without some sort of Firmware upgrade. Yet others have posted success with Dell 1510 cards, so I'm ordering one from Hong Kong now - will post results when it gets here in a few weeks. Meanwhile - I'm having issues with Sleep as the Vaio doesn't seem to wake up properly. Everything (Sound, Networking) turns on but the screen fails to go again. Has anyone had issues with sleep?
