LaK
Hi guys, I'm looking for a mobo and processor to run Snow Leopard and Empire-EFI on it. As I have a MacBook, I just want to use the hackintosh as a File Server and iTunes Machine. I have everything around to build it, just need the two components. The cheaper, the better. If the Motherboard doesn't have an onboard video card, i need that, too. I'd love to run everything out-of-the-box, if possible. I don't need lots of power, just want it to boot correctly and reliable (: By the way - It's a pity that there's no recommended machine like in times when the first hackintoshes were built, i remember it, but i could not find something with google. Thanks very much. (And please excuse my bad language, I'm actually a german native (: ) Regards, LaK EDIT: Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L (Rev 1.x or 2.x) and an Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 Is this going to work without additional KEXT's?? YoYelloW
Maybe cheapest to get an atom based mobo or even one of those newer atoms with ION onit. even thou 10.6.2 doesnt run vanilla on those, they will do what u need pretty perfect and cheap at low power else you could go for the cheapest mobo u can find that is supported, like some old P45 or even P35 mobos from gigabyte, and get a c2d cpu u like Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197851-low-cost-hack/#findComment-1332235 Share on other sites
eject
you could go for something with a 945 chipset, they come with an gma950 wich is supported and they run lga775 cpus up to fsb1066. it's a bit outdated but cheap for that reason Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197851-low-cost-hack/#findComment-1332254 Share on other sites

I got a Mobo out of a Shuttle barebone system for a few bucks, its exacly the gma950 that you mentioned. I just need to figure out how to put it into a normal PC case. I can't use my old Celeron D CPU with Empire EFI, right?? eject
i don't know what empire efi is. i use netkas pc-efi, i also used boot think, wich works really great but does not support raid booting. for best support you should always buy a core2 technology cpu Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197851-low-cost-hack/#findComment-1334473 Share on other sites
