Hello,

as a frustrated Windows User and Mac-Newbie i installed Snow Leopard from the original Apple Upgrade DVD following the installationguide on http://lifehacker.com/5360150/install-snow...acking-required

Everything is working without problems, except the onboard LAN.

Hardware:

Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-EG31MF-S2

LAN: Realtek 8111C LAN Controller

CPU: Core2Duo E6550

The LAN worked "out of the box" without problems under Leopard.

In this thread i found many kexts to try and i read that there are different kext for 32k SL and 64k SL. None of them worked.

Is there a way to find out which version i require?

I'm installing the Kexts using Kext Helper b7. Maybe this is the problem, does it work under SL?

Hope someone can help me.

OK, I'm a step further now. I found out that my OSX is running with the 64-bit Kernel ( uname -a) and the kexts for the 8111C seem to work only with the 32-bit Kernel.

First i will install the system new, because i tried so many kexts that i'm not sure what i've done allready.

Is there a point in the installation where i can configure with which kernel i want to boot?

Use the ES2L Kit method of installing Snow using a 8 GB flash drive. All works except for Audio which in my case didn't work even after DSDT Patch in 32 bit mode. There is a patched 64 bit AppleHDA.kext which makes even the audio work in 64bit mode. but i was preferring 32bit mode. How did you manage the audio. Does the board have Realtek ALC888 codec.
