MikePL
I have an ATI 9200 card and I managed to start the system by tweaking the com.apple.Boot.plist file. I added the 1280x1024 resolution but the refresh is still 60hz. In the 'string' line I have 1280x1024x32. What should I add to set the refresh rate? Maybe this should be like 1280x1024x32@85? Yes, I have searched the forum, but... 1. All the information concerns some advanced problems like OpenGL and other functions that people want (I don't need this) 2. I have no dual booting so OSX is my only system (for the first time in my life since an hour) and my eyes are bleeding after one hour of 60hz so please don't force me to search more. Thank you in advance for your information Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19059-changing-the-refresh-rate/ Share on other sites
gwprod12
the @70 is the refresh rate. Depending on your card, it may or may not do anything. Also, if it works, it could make the screen temporarily jumbled. See if the darwin loader says Vesa 2 or Vesa 3. If Vesa 3, refresh should work. It wont under 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19059-changing-the-refresh-rate/#findComment-124834 Share on other sites
MikePL
It says VESA 2.0 when I boot. The '@85' does not work. What should I do then? I don't need any acceleration or using all my card's possibilities. I just need 1280x1024x32@85 but I don't know how to do it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19059-changing-the-refresh-rate/#findComment-125134 Share on other sites
rblissitt
I have a Radeon 9200-based card (Sapphire Atlantis) and it is a VESA 2.0 card (see my sig). I had the same problem: 60Hz on a CRT is death. I found a thread somewhere in this forum on how to dump the BIOS, edit the default refresh rate in the BIOS, then re-program the BIOS. The program to edit the default refresh rates in the BIOS runs under Windows, though. You'll need to install Windows or find a friend. Anyway, I chose 75Hz and that works for me, but I may bump it up to 85Hz. It looks great on my CRT, even when I look out of the corner of my eye. -kat Ah... Here it is. I may have used a different tool for one of the three steps because the tool cited wasn't working for me. http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...ool,and,refresh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19059-changing-the-refresh-rate/#findComment-125549 Share on other sites

rblissitt
Ciao belgrano. Does Callisto work with the 9200 that you know of? The testimonials on the site don't sound too encouraging... I hope to use it one day for my 9200, but since I don't need to change refresh rates from day to day or even month to month, editing the BIOS worked great for me. -kat Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19059-changing-the-refresh-rate/#findComment-125722 Share on other sites
MikePL
I have downloaded Callisto but I got frustrated when I read the installation instructions. I just don't get it... Many people say that Macs are so easy, so intuitive and so on. Probably they don't want to admit that spendng lots of cash on a Mac was a waste. OK, back to the topic. I am an advanced Windows user and I don't have problems tweaking aplications, messing with the registry etc. When I switched to OSX... What the hell is this? Anything I download is NOT an executable file and I have to put lots of strange code (sudo pico whatever) to probably make it work (that's not intuitive, is it?). I donwloaded Firefox and it also installs in a strange way (I have to click the dmg file every time I want firefox). I was considering buying a Mac but now I am not so sure about this. Maybe somebody knows a website with mac tutorials because I find it hard to use OSX at all. And no, I have not managed to make callisto work because the installation instructions are pretty strange. Antman
ya put yer devid in the Info.plist file and place the 2 kexts in the Extensions directory and copy and paste the rest of his instructions. It's very simple.. Give it a shot it will work for you. rblissitt
Ok, I'll say it because I'm sure others are wondering... MikePL, are you serious with that last post or are you pulling our collective leg? As far as a Mac Hackintosh goes, yes there is a lot of tweaking because you are doing something unintended. I have used a Mac for 22 years, and I've never even had to use "sudo pico". For the DMG, it is a disk image. Drag Firefox out of the image and put it on any disk in any folder on your system you want. MikePL
Well, Katapaltes, I am actually pulling your leg in 50%. On one hand I am a bit frustrated but on the other hand I am aware of being a newbie. Rammjet, I am aware that I am doing something unintended but hey, 70% of the things I do with Windows are unintended and somehow tweaking them goes easy. But probably this is because I have been fiddlind with Windows for over 8 years and with Mac this is a little over 8 days (for the first time in my life). I guess that I will have to take a deep breath and try to sit down to OSX with a fresh head and get rid of myt prejudices Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19059-changing-the-refresh-rate/#findComment-126860 Share on other sites
