Hey all,

First post, long time lurker.

I am a graphic designer, videographer, photographer, and occasionally a gamer (when I have time hah). My budget is around $1500 and while I'm quite computer literate, deep down mac stuff is new to me (I use Final Cut all day, but at work computers). I've made a couple build lists on newegg but everytime I think I have it down, I see a post that says something is ether better, or won't work. I now come to the mercy of the experts here.

My Basic Needs:

-Dual Core Intel, pref a 3.0 ghz (that can support DDR3)

-6 Gigs of DDR 3 memory.

-A high end graphics card that can run new games/ Motion (I have a HDMI monitor, can I use HDMI on a hackentosh?)

-A motherboard that can support the DDR3 This one?

-7500RPM 500gig HD (I have others for scratch disks and backup disks)

-The ability to use firewire 800 (is this possible? It would make importing footage a lot nicer :) )

All the little things like DVD burner, wireless, Power Supply (going to get a beefy one regardless), and card readers etc will be easy. I've also decided on this case due to people raving about its airflow, large size, and it being super quiet: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811103010

It would be wonderful if someone could show me their favorite build list that fits into this mold, or make one. I don't mind doing command line work, but I DO want to stick with safety over cutting edge. If anyone could do that and I pick your build, I would be more than happy to do some graphic design work trade for your blog or personal use, for the time taken. Thanks!

The main components you need to make sure will work is the motherboard and the graphics card. With that being said I'd look into getting an i7 920 for the processor and a gigabyte x58 ud5 for the motherboard: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=185097

For a graphics card the gtx 285/295 would be probably the easiest high end cards to go with.

Good luck!

I really like the board, and the gfx card is nice as well (I'm thinking more in the $200 range though), but I am looking for a dual core (for a variety of reasons). Is there a highly recommended dual core that would play nicely with the board and DDR3? Thanks !

Also, is this board out of the question?

If you don't want to go to an i7 that board will work great! As for the graphics cards a gtx 260 would be in your budget.

Here's a guide that should work for that board: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=181903

XCILO Black Dual 25cm fan Case

SAMSUNG Black DVD

GIGABYTE UD3LR

Card Reader

CORSAIR 400W

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

EVGA Nvidia GTX260

WD 640gig 7200 RPM

CORSAIR 6GB 2x3

If someone could take a look at it, that would be wonderful. My questions are regarding the memory, should I go with more expensive ones, or will I not see much difference.

Again, I want compatibility over cutting edge.
