pitchblack86
alright, i've been having nothing but trouble trying to get OSx86 onto my laptop. i successfully(although it was easy) got windows 7. want to dual boot it with leopard, or if i can get leopard running good, just run that and get rid of windows all together. thats the back story. i've been having trouble even finding which setup to even try and finally downloaded and burned iDeneb 10.5.8(wont post links to forum where i downloaded because not sure if that is allowed...). the uploader said just download, burn the iso and boot it. did that. put in drive, tried to boot, says waiting for root device. then did -v boot and still the same. someone said do -v voodoo, still the same. what the hell am i doing wrong? HP Pavilion dv7 notebook AMD Turion™ X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-72 processor 2.1 GHz system board- 30FC version 01.99 firmware(bios) F.47 4gb ram ATI Radeon HD 3200 Grapics Hitachi HTS543225L9A300 ATA Device-hard drive Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560S ACPI x64 based PC was told my chipset is : AMD 780G/ATI SB700 someone posted that if you have more than 2gb of ram, nothing will even boot? any and all help is greatly appreciated. was just doing this for myself, but now i'm doing it for my brother. i'm so behind on bills and everything else, i cant afford to buy him a macbook so i'm hoping to get leopard running on here and give it to him for his birthday(just diagnosed 3 months ago with cancer) so not to throw the sob story out there, but any help at all is extremely appreciated. thanks. vilpostus
i h a c k i n t o s h.com/2009/05/still-waiting-for-root-device/ for general info. Most likely need another distro with nForce chipset drivers. Like iPC 10.5.6 If trying with iPC, I'd recommend selecting this options: Sleep, StageXNU, Voodoo from Kernels (boot with -v voodoo or -v stageXNU flags) No VGA drivers (set up them later) AppleNForceATA nForce drivers from chipset drivers ALC662 from Audio drivers ACPI fix, Seatbelt.kext, from fixes and patches Remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagment.kex from Alternate desablers PS/2 Device support AppleSMBIOS 28 EFIStudio, OSx86Tools, Pacifist, Perian, MKext tool, NTFS-3G from applications Best wishes to your bro. vilpostus
do you need another disc with an original copy or burned copy of Mac OS X?You need ever the Retail OS X DVD (the one that comes with any Mac or can be purchased in Apple's shop; Size ~6Gb, fits on a Dual layer DVD) or any distro (modified retail OS X disk such as iPC, iAtkos, iDeneb, Kalyway and many others; size ~4.7Gb, fits on a single layer DVD). Note that to install from a retail disk, one will need some additional cd disk called Boot132. As you can't boot it on a PC directly. A distro disks are all-in-one disks modified to install and work on a PC. You don't need any additional cds to install from that type of disks. Size difference is reached via removing some additional features from the retail disk, such as: printer drivers, sometimes all/some languages, Xcode. If you really want, you can make your personal disk from the retail one. There are some guides about it. pitchblack86
i thought Boot132 only worked on Intel PC's, not AMD? the first thing i looked at was installing retail disc and using boot132...something about only having to add like 2 kernels and youre set, but all the information i've seen on it, only says it supports Intel, not AMD. downloading iPC 10.5.6 as we speak. so far i have ideneb 10.5.8, retail of 10.5.6, and now working on iPC 10.5.6. hopefully this works. if you could clarify if Boot132 works on AMD's, i will definitely prefer that method, but like i said, i've only seen people saying it works on Intel. and thanks for the help and input, i really appreciate it. i hate being such a newbie when it comes to this {censored}. actually i just found this here boot132 for amd but its a bit technical for me. going to go over it another time and see if i can make heads or tails of it. also looking for compatibility with my laptop, and looked here but i'm having trouble finding what will work and what wont work for the HP DV7. any input on this? AMD can be installed with Boot132 method.Though it may be more complicated process then installing on an Intel system. http://www.infinitemac.com/f19/howto-insta...r-retail-t2712/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/188783-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-1280654 Share on other sites

pitchblack86
not sure if these are even needed or important at all, but just 3 quick vids i shot of whats going on. easier to just show than try to explain it. there on my youtube account, if that is alright to post here... this is booting iDeneb just pressing enter this is iDeneb booting with -v , probably same info as first, but just checking and this is iPC booting in -v . same exact thing happens with just enter, -f, and whatever else i type. hope any of this is even the remotest bit of help. i was quite happy when i saw the white apple screen(first time i've reached it) but it got stuck... vilpostus
In the last vid, I've noticed the ' the -v. Have you deleted it before hitting ENTER? Another thing that bothers me is the hd(16,1) line in the Darwin prompt. That is weird. As you have only two drives attached (hdd+DVD). Is that correct? It should be like hd(0,0) or hd(1,0). This parameter shows the number and partition of the OS X install disk. As long as you have the two drives only, it just shouldn't be the hd(16,0). Disconnect any external drives (USB, Firewire etc.) if any connected. Check the disks/disks' controller related settings in BIOS. Something is wrong there. Or it may be a faulty DVD drive... Try using an external one (if you have one). pitchblack86
i have an external hard drive, itouch, and laptop cooling fan plugged into it. when i was booting the disc, i unplugged everything except for the power cord and cooling fan. the dvd drive is working and just incase, i have a external dvd drive, and i got the same exact results. as for the last video, i typed -v and accidently hit comma and deleted it, then i hit enter, no deleting or anything. i dont know why i'm having such a damn problem with this. i've been doing everything i can to have this done by october 9th, my bros birthday. vilpostus
Try other flags e.g. CPUS=1 busratio=20 and other kernel e.g. -v voodoo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/188783-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-1286445 Share on other sites
