Hi,

I have iatkos v7 installed on a E8200/GA-EP31-DS3L. Software update has worked flawlessly for installed software such as Office, but I wanted to check if the 10.5.8 update can be applied through software update without breaking the installation?

Also - the desktop has a CD called Bluebirds - several files including setp.exe, bluebirds.exe, drag&burn.exe, autorun.inf are on it. When I eject it - the CD drive opens, when it closes the disk appears back on the desktop.

Anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it?

Many thanks

Bad idea. Will definitely break the system. Use this http://gu1337.com/mac-apps/256135-osx86-id...t-10-5-8-a.html instead.

Try ejecting it via Disk Utility...

Really? hmm.. I must be lucky then. I installed using iATKOS v7 and updated to 10.5.8 using software update and I haven't had any problems. The update actually fixed a problem I was having with a kernel panic because I was trying new vid drivers and could only boot into safe mode.

As far as the phantom disk I have no idea, I have never seen it before on any system I have used or built .. like Das said try ejecting with disk utility.

It is true if you have a vanilla install. If it is not a vanilla install, then a software update could be very dangerous.

As for me personally, I have really bad experience on Software Updates of not vanilla system. Really! So now I use a vanilla system. Which like yours didn't have any troubles with updating.

I guess I can see your point but, always backup your stuff, and then give it a try, if it doesn't work you can still access your stuff when you do get an update/upgrade solution that does. I am a little crazy like that, I like trial and error it is the fastest way for me to learn even if a bit frustrating.

I did some searching and the bluebird disc that keeps popping up is software that is built into your drive, it is meant to be used in windows. When you put a physical disk into the tray it should work normally and replace the image with one for the disk you put in. I don't have a clue how to get rid of it but, at least now you know what it is.

Thanks fo rthe information fellas.

I think it would be classed as a vanilla install but not 100% sure.

I shall do a back-up image of the hard drive and try - I agree that trial and error is a way to test.

Thanks for looking into that - I didn't manage to find anything at all. I realised it is a Windows relate dthing as the error codes state the files need dos to run. So you say it is related to the drive itself? I may try replacing with a different one.
