I am running 10.5.6 on my Dell XPS 420. Everything seems to work great. However, the data access read and write speed to the hard drive seems to be terrible. The read is averaging 1.10 MB/sec with a burst up to a peak of 2.11 MB/sec.

I installed 10.5.2 Kalyway. Then, updated to 10.5.6 using the methods found here in the forums.

Honestly, I don't know where to start or what you might need to know in order to help me out. Please let me know. I will try to list below what I have.

- Booting under AHCI (Raid turned off in BIOS).

- Seagate 500 GB HD. I usually get close to 100 MB/sec in Windows.

- Quad Core 6600 2.4 Ghz

- 3 GB Ram

- I don't think I am running vanilla kernel.

- I installed a kext to get my Gigabit internet connection for an Intel8566MM.

- Let me know what else to tell you. It is taking iPhoto forever to import photos or do anything.

Thanks!

Patrick

Sorry for the bump. But, I am hoping to test out iPhoto and some other packages with the real HD speeds before the student discount offer ends on the 9th. The only reason I did the Hackintosh was to see if I truly would like OS X. It is hard to give it a fair shake when it is runny so slow.

Thanks!
