Hi,

here are my lessons learned from installing iAtkos v7 on Lenovo Thinpad T60. No warranties included, use this information at your own risk.

Install time customization

- vga: ati hd (my card is ATI x1300, id 0x749 7149)

- intel speedstep: yes

- laptop battery: yes

- apple ps2 driver (for internal mouse to work), source: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=78388

First boot after installation

- press any key when Chameleon v2 boot loader starts. As startup parameters enter: cpus=1 "Graphics Mode"="1920x1200x32"

- (or whatever your resolution is)

- I entered several times -cpus=1, which does not work

- cpus=1 means one core only, otherwise my system reboots

What works:

- feels like using a real mac :D. However, my personal opinion is that this kind of hacked installation is only good for trying out how osx feels like. For any real use I would invest the money and buy real hardware + valid licenses (it is quite difficult to get everything working and to be confident that future updates will work - comparable to the amount of money saved).

- good perfomance apart from missing hardware accelerated graphics

- software update to 10.5.8

- dual boot with Linux/Grub, see below

- fan control, power management at least partially

- wired network

What does not work:

- graphics card hardware acceleration, resolution switching inside mac os, resolutions >1600x1200 (this thread is quite convincing that there's not much to do: http://uphuck.ggrn.de/forum/viewtopic.php?...a&start=15) [show stopper for me :)]

- Intel wlan, it looks like there's no solution other than buying new hardware

- 2nd processor core

- sleep / hibernate (I did not spend much time on this)

- windows key and alt key switch places when comparing external usb keyboard with internal keyboard

- some battery details missing

- any software that required hardware accelerated display or change of resolution (such as Aperture)

Dual boot setup:

- I installed osx on over existing Windows primary partition and followed instructions in http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...tu_and_Vista%29, http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=173764, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351

- linux was on extended partition

- trick was to install grub inside linux partition, not in mbr

- reboot and press any key in Chameleon boot loader to see options

I also tried several times installing iAtkos v7 in Vmware workstation without luck.

Update:

- I'm thankful for all those people behind the hacks & documentation, this was quite an unique experience

- It would seem like as with Linux, it makes sense to buy compatible hardware and then try installing (not to use old hardware taken out of use)

- To be fair, Ubuntu 9.04 does not support hardware accelerated graphics with this system out-of-box (8.10 did)
