Guess it was in the 5% lol, because the JMicronATA.kext works fine, but in 64 bit mode my sound is still toast... I didn't see HDAEnabler load in verbose, while JMicron DID this time (in 64 bit mode). Could it be my LegacyHDA or AppleHDA kexts? I'm pretty sure those are not the issue here, as whenever I boot in 32 bit mode HDAEnabler shows up in verbose, and in 64 it doesn't.

The KP I'm getting with software update:

screenshot

Also, after doing the whole permissions thing, I had problems with DSMOS:

hfs: hfc_btree_open: BTOpenPath error -32738

So I grabbed the new dsmos.kext from netkas (here) and put it in Extra/Extensions and that's fixed.

btw, what is the proper way to capture KP's? I can't find a log file anywhere...

I have a GA EP45-UD3L. Here are my experiences, with those who have the motherboard... if anyone else has advice or reports, please post:

I installed SL to a spare IDE drive from inside my Leopard 10.5.8 installation (on a different SATA disk.) I'm NOT using AHCI as it would make no difference, I installed to an IDE drive. Anyways, after the install finished, I dropped in all of the kexts included in the guide, made an EFI string, and installed Chameleon 2RC1. Booted with "-v -x32" On first boot, graphics worked but no sound (see below.) I tried doing the Apple account setup, and got far enough to create my username, and then after that I had an MDWorker panic. Rebooted I was getting KP related to MDWorker, as mentioned, so I did the spotlight trick (took me a couple of tries, as it panicked before I could even get to the menu at first) and then it stopped KPing over mdworker.

But the panics persisted, related to other things. I tried to run DiskUtility, but it failed making the mkext and when I tried to be reboot I got the dreaded BSOD (no mouse or anything, just sat at the blue screen.) I tried clearing the kextcache from single user mode, and it didn't seem to change anything, so I booted into Leopard and used Disk Utility to repair the permissions on the SL drive. Didn't seem like it repaired anything, but a reboot proved successful. I was back into SL. This time, KextUtility worked and everything seemed fine. So what didn't work? And what's different from the guide?

- Audio - I tried to insert DSDT audio code for my 888. Then I tried a few different 888 kexts to supplement. No working sound in 32-bit or 64-bit. If anyone has audio working for ALC888 on the UD3(L) series, please post how! I'd love for the audio to work.

- As mentioned, the JmicronATA kext that comes in the package is NOT 64-bit compatible. You can find one at PCWiz's download site, or linked a few posts above, I believe. After that, I was able to boot into 64-bit mode.

- Finally, it wasn't seeing any of the other drives Chameleon was listing (Win 7, Leopard.) I installed Netkas' AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext and voila, I could now see them.

Just a few things left to iron out! Mainly the sound.

As you speak, I'm fixing a few issues with sound. I did have sound in 32 bit but I'm trying to get it to work properly in 64 bit. I wasn't aware that if you patch audio using DSDT, then you don't need anything but LegacyHDA.kext if you want the info in System Profiler. I'm about to reboot having restored the default AppleHDA.kext and see what happens in 64 bit. I am aware that my JMicronATA.kext is only 32 bit, I have the 64 bit one now and will post it in the v2 of my SL Pack (which should be much better). I just need to 1, fix my sound, and 2, fix the fact that ONLY my 1 NTFS drive won't mount, and NTFS-3G is giving me a message at boot that it can't mount the drive. Verbose boot says that disk3 isn't supported.

so i'm really sorry but i'm almost out of time for a while to help you, but in the next few hours i should be able to post a guide for you.

to make this quicker can you post the fixes you made to leopard in order to get your system running? I don't need links, just a quick explanation of some kexts you used. otherwise I have to go look them up.

also what partition map are your drives?

so your mobo and cpu will work vanilla, just have to get you graphics and you should be able to boot using my guide.

wowee, umm lets see. All I really did was pop the disc in, I selected the drivers I needed [not the video drivers as they weren't there], I think I'm using VooDoo and the Voodoo patch from the iPC disc [my boot screen is not the standard apple boot, it has a custom picture put in]. After I was able to boot into the desktop, I installed my video drivers from a file entitled "Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards.pkg" repaired permissions and rebooted. 1 core and 512MB is detected now. I then used the iDeneb Combo upgrade kit to go to 10.5.7 from 10.5.6. That's all I really did to get this working, after the first install, everything worked, my SATA drives were detected [required help from NTFS_G to get my windows drives detected], ethernet worked and even my UPS backup battery was detected and configurable.

As for the partition map question, I'm a little confused by that. Do you mean what partitions are where and what their sizes are?

No like is it Master Boot Record (MBR) or GUID

***UPDATE: Grr I wish people told me these things sometimes. So using JUST my patched DSDT and LegacyHDA.kext (for the cosmetic information in System Profiler), audio works fine in 64 bit mode. Only problem, which is kind of bad (and needs to be fixed), is my microphone doesn't show up. It is called "None" but it doesn't actually detect any sound...

screenshot20090829at723.png

I just have to fix the issue of my NTFS drive not mounting as well, and I'll post an updated SL Pack.

I'm sorry but that confuses me too, I never really learned the "lingo." But I believe the answer is MBR, OS X isn't sitting alone on my computer, it's sharing it with Windows and Linux OS's.

thats probably why you are having issues, you can't use the stock kernal if you have an mbr partition.

I have a GA EP45-UD3L.

- Audio - I tried to insert DSDT audio code for my 888. Then I tried a few different 888 kexts to supplement. No working sound in 32-bit or 64-bit. If anyone has audio working for ALC888 on the UD3(L) series, please post how! I'd love for the audio to work.

I have the same board and my only issue is the audio. Tried DSDT patching, tried a bunch of 888 kexts nothing worked. Just waiting for updates on how to get sound working. 32bit or 64bid I don't care.

Well, thing is, I don't really know where to start, there's dooms guide, your guide. I also have yet to burn the disc, and I'm clueless whether or not it's needed. [to burn the dmg that is]

No... You don't HAVE to burn the DMG, I just did it from the mounted dmg.

To everyone else, I have SL Pack v2 (and am going to upload it soon) with a few changes to the Extensions folder (so I updated the mkext). I still, however, can't get my microphone to work (which might be a mistake in making my DSDT on my part), but it says that AppleHDAController.kext failed to load (within the default SL AppleHDA.kext).

My NTFS volume is mounting only like 1 out of every 4 boots, and even though I've updated my MacFUSE/NTFS-3G to the latest (and even beta) versions, it's not succeeding.

I got sound working on UD3L with these kexts in /Extra/Extensions. I also ran the Kext Utility after moving the files.

EP43_DS3L_Sound.zip

I would love to have just a DSDL patch to fix the sound, but this will do for now.

DSDT is much better, but for now you can use those. DSDT just allows you to use the built in stock AppleHDA.kext for your sound with 0 modifications.

definitely not for beginners though. I'm a little bit too lazy to edit mine for my stac9220, because voodooHDA covers it fine.

This is what appears on boot up even with the latest MacFuse/NTFS-3G:

Does anyone know what's wrong? I read a few articles now that said that Macfuse was updated for x64 Snow Leopard, and NTFS-3G should work fine as well...

did you ever try macfuse on Leopard? it was a massive killer of OSx86 Machines. I gave up on it since it isn't that useful. If you want to run Windows inside Leopard use wine instead.

No... Chameleon was having HUGE problems with my Storage drive being formatted as FAT32. The entire GUI wouldn't even show up and it froze because it didn't like the FAT32 drive. I need the Storage drive to be able to be read and written to by both Windows and OS X. HFS can't do that, and FAT32 screwed with Chameleon. What are my other options?

I don't appreciate you laughing, as NTFS-3G worked FLAWLESSLY on Leopard. It works FLAWLESSLY in 32-bit mode SL as well... Maybe it didn't work for you, but it sure as hell did for me. Since when is write support on NTFS "not useful"?

Anyways I booted into 32-bit mode, and everything works fine except my microphone, which could be a DSDT mistake that I'll fix later. I guess NTFS-3G just isn't compatible with x64 yet.

Ok, so noob mentioned a guide for me, you have v2 of your pack.

As for your troubles with NTFS-3G, on first install for me it didn't work, it took a bit. Being this is a fairly young OS, I'd give them time to work out some kinks.

I haven't tried. I haven't tried booting into 64 yet, but in leopard MacFuse murdered my processor speed

sorry for laughing. I took it out when I realized I typed it.

you need to change your partition map on your computer, there are a few ways to do that.

I have heard rumors of a program that will do it for you and allow you to keep your data but i don't know where it is or what it is called. so hope you can find it.

other than that you will have to repartition your discs which will erase all of your data.
