sm01
How would I go about resizing my NTFS (Windows) and HFS+ (Mac OS X) partitions without losing data? I'd like to make my Windows partition smaller and make my Mac OS X partition bigger. efrasiyab
How would I go about resizing my NTFS (Windows) and HFS+ (Mac OS X) partitions without losing data? I'd like to make my Windows partition smaller and make my Mac OS X partition bigger. I needed the same thing as well so i made a quick search. there is a program called volumeworks, which lets you partition your mac formatted hard drive, without losing any data. I haven't tried it yet but there is no need for it to malfunction I guess... if you have vista, first boot into vista and shrink volume (right click on computer -> manage -> disk management -> select the harddisk you want to make changes -> from the below menu right click on the partition you want to shrink -> select shrink volume), then boot into mac and extend your partition by using volumeworks. if you have xp, well, there is a program for xp like volumeworks but I just don't know it's name . hope it helps. Well, I couldn't get Volumeworks to see any of my OSx86 drives. Has anyone got this to work? Beerkex'd
Volumeworks doesn't work with MBR partitioned drives. From the manual: "VolumeWorks provides the user with the ability to rebuild the drive’s partition map in either PDISK format for use with older PPC-based, Pre-Intel Mac systems, or in GUID format for newer Intel-based Mac systems." It says it doesn't work with "bootcamp" partitioned drives either, I guess that means hybrid GPT/MBR is out of the question too. gazzacbr
this is what i did. i have 5 os's and 2 data partitions on my lappy so have to be a bit careful i used my boot-it disk manager to resize but there are others. didnt manage to find an on-the-fly solution for mbr based hfs+ resize but this worked ok. good luck (no need to mention to backup everything to external drive somewhere before starting because you know that anyway ) http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1202483 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/174449-partition-without-destroying-data/#findComment-1220766 Share on other sites
