fend3r
sorry if this is a noob question but im far from a hacker.. I want to DUAL boot X and win XP. last time I tried to install x86 doodle hit the fan and I was locked out from XP and stuck in a failin X86 boot screen. Now my question is does the osX86 harddrive have to be toggled as master on the physical HD or how u get dual boot to worK?! I was told XP wont boot unless its installed on primary or secondary master hardrive, true? A penny for your thoughts. belgrano
You can definitely dual boot OS X x86 and Win XP. First you should know that you MUST have only primary partitions on your HDD - so max 4 partitions. If you have extended/logical partitions, you can not install OS X. Here is how I did it: 1. I made 3 primary partitions with Partition Magic from floppy disk (I think you can obtain the same result with a Linux Live CD - Ubuntu or something like that, with "cfdisk..."). Do not format any of them. 2. insert your patched dvd (I used Marklar dvd patched with that generic patcher test 3 made by bender12 and br0adband) into dvd drive, wait for boot sequence (begin instalation, accept licence agreement), then open Disk Utility. On the right side you will see all the partition that you made, under the name of your HDD. They will have names like disk0s1... disk0s2... Choose the partition that you want to install OS X to (I chose the last one), click in the right side on erase, choose a name and as volume format Mac OS Extended (Journaled)(which is the default choise anyway) . Here I got an error (unable to write partition table) so I format once leaving the default partition name (disk0s3) and then I format it again but this time I could change the name. (Every time, I formated with MAc OS Extended format type) Do not use Partition HDD, it will erase all your hdd!!! 3. Close Disk Utility and return to your instalation, where luckily you can see the drive you want to install to and proceed to installation. Finish the installation of OS X. 4. Reboot, insert Windows XP Install Disk into dvd drive, install XP as usual (I used NTFS as format type but I guess you can use FAT32 instead). 5. Edit boot.ini in Windows as mentioned so many times in this forum, so you can dual boot. I hope this is clear enough.
