I have spent the last few nights trying to configure a Lenovo T60P to dual boot between osx 10.5 and win xp.

I have had a fully working vanilla 10.5.7 on it but only with a GUID partitioned drive.

Of course, Win XP is not compatible with GUID and Vista or XP64 are not an option due to software compatibility requirements.

So, after some research I have come across some tutorials showing how to create Leopard install media which allows the OS to be installed on an MBR drive.

However, everytime I attempt to create a modified boot disc (DVD-DL, DVD-SL, USB Key, or external HD) the furtherest I get is to the purple star screen (just after the initial grey screen with turning cog) and a beachball cursor which if left alone will spin overnight...

What am I doing wrong?

The retail media (10.5 and 10.5.1) works fine. (But is limited to GUID)

A straight clone of the disc also works fine.

Any modified /converted version of the disc will either hang with a "boot0" error or get to the aforementioned spinning beach ball.

I have followed a number of tutorials but to no avail.

My last attempt was to try to create a straight 10.5.1 install USB stick with not mods at all but still get only as far as the beach ball.

I am now stuck..

Can anyone suggest why this might be happening?

Or any idea on how to achieve a dual boot with XP on a single drive?

Thanks!

P.S. Is it feasible to install the OS on the drive configured with GUID, create a CCC clone backup, format the drive as MBR and restore the backup to it? Would this work or is there some issue with boot sectors?
