10.5.7 GMA950 Quartz Extreme issue

26 posts in this topic

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

after upgrading my d430 to 10.5.7 I found some problem with GMA950 driver: it seems the Quartz Extreme is disable (I'm also force the upgrading using osx86tools). Had someone the same issue and solve it?

The only way to fix it is to restore a backup version of the follow element under /System/Library/Extension

AppleIntelGMA950VADriver.bundle

AppleIntelGMA950GLDriver.bundle

AppleIntelGMA950GA.plugin

AppleIntelGMA950.kext

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

IOPCIFamily.kext

After upgrade to 10.5.7 from 10.5.6 everything is working OK , but QuartzE is disabled :/

I've tried different drivers and nothing :hysterical:

Waiting for someone to solve this issue.

I just updated two GMA950 system - one with an AsRock DVI extension card and one on a Shuttle K45. Both had running QE/CI with 10.5.6. Of course I made a time machine backup; I also copied the AppleIntelGMA950*.* and the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext to a safe place.

I used the normal update (no combo) which worked flawlessly. After rebooting I was left with 1024*768 on both systems but QE/CI working (which means the GMA driver is working but the monitor is not recognized). Re-installing the complete 10.5.6 kext set leads to full resolution but QE/CI just with software support.

So I re-installed the original 10.5.7 driver but this time only replaced the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext. That did the trick on both systems. Now I have the GMA950 running with full resolution and QE/CI hardware support.

thanks. Have the same problem.I'll try this tomorow- I just hope kext helper made a backup off the 10.5.7 drivers cause I tried to install the old 10.5.6 and got the same results you did.

Would someone mind posting the 10.5.7 drivers? I made the dumb mistake of overriding the new kexts with my old 10.5.6 kexts. I'd like to try to reinstall the new drivers and then copy my old framebuffer kext as suggested.

Thanks,

Chris

Solved!!

Just re-installled my intel D945GCPE (GMA950 0x2772) with iAtkos 5i using stock kernel and stock drivers and EFI string for intel enabled.. I did this even though I knew it wouldnt give true quartz extreme it only says its supported in the profiler but doesnt actually work.. this might not be necessary but I did it anyway..

Then immediately installed 10.5.7 combo update.. The after the restart the system fails to boot completely but automatically reboots again this time successfully.. not sure if this is normal but it happened the first time I tried updating also.. anyway the system is now 10.5.7..

Now to fix the GMA950 i installed this AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext using OSX86Tools.. then rebooted once more.. on startup I had real quartz extreme acceleration and full resolution changing ability.. I havnt noticed any artifacts as yet and all applications seem to be running as they should be..

I dont know where I got this kext from as I've downloaded a million kexts and driver bundles and packages etc in my efforts to get quartz extreme working again but whoever supplied this driver thank you so much..

I've also attached the stock GMA950 (10.5.7) kexts for those that need it but if you have tried as many other kext packages as I have you might be better off with a clean install as my experience was that some packages install other kexts that might give false positives in the system profiler..

Hope this helps the many others like me who struggled getting quartz extreme back after 10.5.7

As Joolay's Framebuffer.kext differs from mine - for those who do not have success with his drivers, here are mine. The GMA950 drivers are those from the combo update, the Framebuffer came from an iDeneb installation.

Edit: deleted the file - seems the frame buffer is identical to the one from Joolay. Please use his attachment instead.

Thanks JeanLuc7.. but btw my GMA950 drivers also came from the Combo update.. I just checked the file info for interest sake and your drivers including framebuffer are exactly the same version numbers and bit size identical to mine.. so just curious as to how does mine differs from yours? :)

dunno - I downloaded yours and it had a different size in finder. Maybe that was because of displaying the size in Bytes and kBytes. I just deleted my attachment to prevent confusion.

Thanks for the files Joolay, finally got the QE/CI enabled on my Inspiron 6400 with the 27a2 version of the GMA 950. Needed it as someone at App*e decided that iWo*k needs QE to display things properly (read anything at all !)

Just threw the files at Kext helper and Voila QE/CI and correct 1280 x 800 res still :P .

Thanks again.

Thanks sooooooo much

Glad I could help and finally contribute to the osx86 project

I get QE and Res change. But there are artifacts. The GMA950 DSDT can't fix that too.

Yep I have started noticing artifacts mainly in programs running in Rosetta.. Hopefully someone can find a better solution and post.. I never had success with DSDT.. maybe Im not doing it right but my system fails to boot when trying a patched DSDT.. but the occasional artifact not gonna bother me right now as the Pro's outway the Con's.. Good Luck Everyone

Joolay's framebuffer kext fixed my resolution issue perfectly [and thank you - it was driving me nuts] but i still don't have QuartzExtreme.

=(

either way, once again, thank you Joolay!

VERY IMPORTANT!!! I want to share with you guys my fix for getting my GMA 950 to work. Im very technical but new to the world of Mac Os X. However I was experiencing some weird artifacts and my screen glitching right after an installation of atkos 10.5.7. Not to worry, dont reboot the pc just do what I did and connect the external display to my laptop and the artifacts stopped all the glitching. Then all I did was install "OSX86tools" app and used it to install the "AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext". The software restarted by itself and when it booted back up Quartz Extreme was enabled and functioning smooth with out anymore artifacts.

P.S. Also in your installation of 10.5.7 iatkos when you are installing the os under video drivers select only EFI and GMA950 under Intel and select either "Desktop" or "Rare" but not both with the GMA 950 driver selected.

P.S.S You know that your setup went correctly if after you restarted the computer after OS installation and you see the black and purple video playing back with music, but if it goes directly to you having to enter in Choosing a country and location then your Quart Extreme is not enabled and you might want to reinstall the OS choosing the correct video driver until you see the video playback or at least the video with artifacts then you can use my methods above to fix it.

Hi,

I have HP mini 1151nr i reinstall maybe 10 times test software 2 days just for fun but now I can't run Quartz Extreme on 10.5.7 on 10.5.5 working I see 10.5.7 disable somehow

-- I remove AppleIntelGMA*.* drivers + AppleIntelIntegrated... and put this from this how to ... but NO LUCK stuk ck on low resolution

-- Then I remove AppleIntelGMA*.* (those from this howto) and leave AppleIntelIntegrated... some of you say it's working only with IntegratedFramebuffer but now luck stuk ck on low resolution

-- Now i use GMA drivers from 10.5.7 and my IntegratedFramebuffer from howto i use to install it and dont have QE enabled

I installed the files you linked to and Boom, quartz extreme goodness once again. This is after installing several versions from these forums and trying desperately to get 3d acceleration back. Now i can play full screen video again.

Thanks for the help

I used to have the same problems with an Intel D945GCPE (GMA950) and was able to solve all issues (have full resolutions, CI, QE, etc., no extra kexts or artifacting of any kind) by creating a DSDT.aml file, thanks to Dr. Hurt's solution - http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1163133

thats a no go for laptops :/

i need one for my dell m1210

Joolay -

I know it's been a couple of months since you posted your response but I just had to tell you thanks. I spent hours upon hours trying to get this dang video driver working again and after the 8,390th try your files worked for me! Thanks so much for posting them.

Will this work on 10.6.3? if not i need help

I'm in the same boat - res change, QE and CI all work perfectly on my GMA 950 using stock kexts in 10.6.0 but since I upgraded to 10.6.3 I've lost QE and CI. My card's ID is 0x27a2 and I've tried a bunch of things to try and get it working again but to no avail.

Hey..

Glad I could help everyone who were stuck trying to figure out this problem..

For those who are wondering about Snow Leopard.. The framebuffer kext gets replaced with every update i.e. from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2.. so you have to re-install the kext after updates..

As for laptops.. I dont know if it works or not.. just know that it works for my Desktop with hardware id 2772..

After about 1.5 years I decided to clean install my mac and lost the framebuffer kext so logged on to download it from my original post.. I saw Webplus's post which said he had the same motherboard as mine and Dr Hurt's DSDT patch worked for him..

So I gave the DSDT patch another try.. and IT WORKS! it was a little tricky as my generated DSDT doesnt look "exactly" like the examples and I probably didn't patch it correctly when I tried 2 yrs ago.. but the result is brilliant.. ZERO ARTIFACTS! And I swear the screen actually looks crisper!

I seriously suggest people try to patch their DSDT files first before resorting to the framebuffer kext.. Good Luck people!

Edit: BTW something I picked up about doing the DSDT hack.. Do not use anything else with this hack.. remove all enablers and modified kexts as well as EFI strings.. I didnt do this at first and my mac started up without a finder or dock.. I believe it something made it think it was a secondary display
