TARado
Hey all, I'm looking to ditch Vista for iATKOS, but I have no clue how to tell if my notebook is compatible and don't want to format it all just to find out that it doesn't work. My laptop is a Gateway P6860FX (specs here: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/gateway-p-...-32976305.html) Can someone that knows about this look it over and help? And does CS4 run well on OSx86 10.5? Thanks! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168621-noob-compatibility-question-here/ Share on other sites

Thanks! You should have done a search of the forum before you posted, but your laptop looks as if it would work. Not so sure on the graphics card, but check out the Hardware Compatibility list and search the forum. As for CS4 there is no reason it shouldn't run fine, provided your graphics card supports QE/CI (quartz extreme, core images) which is basically just hardware acceleration which enables many more features. TARado
Sorry about the search, I do admit that I could have done a little better with that. Tried doing a search a little bit and honestly was overwhelmed with info and couldn't navigate the forums well enough to sort it all out Thanks and I'll check out the graphics card. If it isn't compatible, what's the next step? I assume at that point I'm screwed? lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168621-noob-compatibility-question-here/#findComment-1166567 Share on other sites
SteveWasTaken
Not screwed. Just means you'll need a tweak to make it run, or be stuck at 1024*768. as far as i know natit is your best bet for getting the card to work if it doesnt out of the box. I would say partition your drive and give it a try, on a small 6gb partition, and if it doesn't work you still have your previous operating system. Try it and let us know how it goes. I found these threads which may be of use: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t120545.html http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1165448 sorry if these do not work, I'm personally an ATi user. TARado
Thanks Tried doing a dual boot with Vista twice and neither way I could get to work (using IATKOS v5i, if that matters). One way didn't work at all and the other just stayed at the Mac loading screen after selecting to boot as mac. I feel like such a tard, but I will make this work! SteveWasTaken
if it hangs at the boot screen, try typing this at the boot console -f -v cpus=1 and see if it works. Its a common problem.
