I have a problem and I hope someone in the community has an answer.

My system is an IBM ThinkCentre P4 Prescott with an nVidia GeForce FX 5500 graphics card. The install was done with a boot-132 pre-boot cd and a retail install DVD. Because my system is driven by a P4, I need a patched kernel. I use the Voodoo release one (1) kernel with matching System.kext and seatbelt.kext. I have been using device-properties strings in com.apple.Boot.plist to activate changing display resolution and CI/QE. This has worked fine until I upgraded from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6.

After the upgrade the system would not boot until I removed the properties strings. It just hung at the point where the login window should have been displayed. In an effort to regain the ability to change resolution ang have CI/QE supported I used Pacifist to install the LeopardGraphicsUpdate1.0 package. That has restored the function, but left some graphics artifacts I would like to correct.

This image shows the System Profile for the graphics card:

And this image shows the problem:

This distorted image will correct itself for a single execution of the Preferences if I use Expose hot keys to shift to a different screen and then back to the screen with the Preferences. The next time I run Preferences it is back to the distortion. I see the same distortion when I use the Preview app. There may be others, but these are the main ones I have found.

I have searched with Google and in insanelyMac fora but no luck. If anyone has seen this problem and knows of a solution I would greatly appreciate some pointers.
