I have been fascinated by the Apple's Mac OS ever since I got to know about it. And when I came to know that I could install it on my laptop, I was delighted. I have been successfull in installing various versions from days of OS X 10.4 [Tiger]. Lately I thought of installing 10.5.6 and upgrading it to 10.5.7 on the same old XPS m1210 which I bought in November 2006.

My previous posts.

What all I did

Restarted my XPS pressed 12 to go into 1 time boot menu and boot from the OsX 10.5.6 DVD. [ the iso can be downloaded of well known places ]

Get to the boot menu and -v and boot.

You will get the initial screen.

I already had 10.5.2 running on it so i decided to erase that same partition and install on it.

Then customized the install by following selections :

Patches

Chipset

ICHx Fixed

Network / Ethernet

AppleBC440x

Fix

cpus=1 fix

BatterManager

Video / NVidia

NVKush

Apps

- ASU

- BetterZip

- OSx86 Tools

- Transmission

Then continue to install. I installation checks for the disk errors [ i skipped disk check ]. Wait for 15 minutes or so to finish installation.

On reboot i got the following error

Boot0:MBR Boot0:error I had grub as my boot loader so I followed the instruction over here to resolve the issue and add Mac Os to boot loader.

Once its fixed I have the triple boot…. The above link can be used to add XP entry too in Grub.

Boot into Mac OS

Install MacFUSE 2.0.3

Install NTFS-3G to have write capability on other NTFS partitions.

Patch Sigmatel Audio

Install AppleHDAPatcher

Apply Sigmatel9221 HDA Patch [ drag the sigmatel 9221.txt onto the icon ]

Install Modified NVinjectGO Extension

Delete NVKush.kext [Drag file to Trash - System/Library/Extensions/NVKush.kext ]

Launch OSx86 Tools [Applications/iDeneb App/OSx86 Tools) (OSx86 Tools) Install NVinjectGO.kext [Provided in this setup image (modified v0.2.0)] (OSx86 Tools)

Enable Quartz GL (OSx86 Tools) Run System Maintenance [set Extensions Permissions, Clear Extensions Cache -> Run Tasks]

Enable Support for Both Cores and replace kernel

Open Terminal sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist and remove the string entry ' cpus=1 and -f '

Launch OSx86 Tools (Applications/iDeneb App/OSx86 Tools) (OSx86 Tools)

Install Kernel

(OSx86 Tools) Run System Maintenance {Repair Permissions, Set Extensions Permissions, Clear Extensions Cache -> Run Tasks]

If you system boots up normal, with no jittery mouse or sound, you are running properly with dual core support. While you shouldn't experience any problems, in the event that do, you can restart again, press any key during the darwin boot countdown and provide "cpus=1 -f " flags to boot back into stable system and undo the changes to your com.apple.Boot.plist file

Install Clamshell Display

Launch OSx86 Tools [Applications/iDeneb App/OSx86Tools]

Install ClamshellDisplay.kext Run System Maintenance [set Extension Permissions, Clear Extensions Cache -> Run Tasks]

Install Apple Software Update Support Launch OSx86 Tools [Applications/iDeneb App/OSx86 Tools]

Install AppleDecrypt.kext

Install Disabler.kext

Run System Maintenance [set Extension Permissions, Clear Extensions Cache -> Run Tasks]

P.S. All the kext and other files mentioned here can be found in a dmg image here

I am thankful to insanelymac.com and seadonky without which there would have been no MAc OS on my XPS icon_smile.gif and I would also like to numerous others who themselves or their posts helped me achive what I wanted. Last but not the least I am thankful to my readers and followers.
