roowan
i always recommend eg31mf-s2 because everthing is working without any troubles. Sleep, shutdown, reboot, firewire, onboard sound. And it's reeeeally cheap, approx 60$
Doug the Impaler
EP45-UD3L is $98 shipped on Newegg (just ordered one for myself). Nobody actually makes new P35 or G31 boards now - I'd rather buy something that's still in production, myself.
Zaap
G31 boards are still in production (like the GA-G31M-ES2L) it's just not the latest/greatest chipset.
Doug the Impaler
I suppose they might be. Still wouldn't recommend one unless you're going to be using the onboard video. For not a whole lot more, you can get a P43 (which is pretty much the same chipset as the P45) board that will overclock pretty well. That Q6600 is dying to be run at a 1333MHz bus, 3GHz. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128380
Zaap
I don't disagree with you. The main benefit of a board like the G31M-ES2L is that it's MicroATX that's 100% compatible. It's also only $53 currently. If one needs a smaller form factor Mac, like say for an HTPC, it's an excellent choice. Remember too, we in the OSx86 community are more than a bit spoiled by what we consider 'older' hardware, because the PC world moves so fast. If the P35 and G31 is 'old' then most of what Apple sells is positively ANCIENT. Luckily the Mini just got a refresh, but really, how many years was it before that, and I wonder how many more before the next?
