Hello all,

I'm new to install osx in pc laptop, been a window user for a while and want to try osx but the mac is too expensive for me.

I looking for a portable laptop that can fully support osx out of the box with some requirement as follow

1 Screen size more than 9 inc and less than 15 inc

I do my research and found out that the dell mini 9 is fully support osx however, the screen is to small for me, also I read the forum and saw many of you guys mension 1920x1200 screen, is that any requirement to install osx?

2 able to install VMWare with have ubuntu as a virtual machine

So this may require more power than dell mini 9

3 able to install Photoshop

So this may cause the problem with dell mini 9 screen size ( based on what I read )

4 long battery life

5 my max budget is around 800$ but want to save as much money as possible in this kind of economy

Any suggestion would be appriceated!!

Thanks

yea your like 200 $ away from getting the real deal. do it or you will kick yourself later... maybe. if your cheap get a dell mini 9 and max it out. you will save but your sacrificing... depends on what you want out of it. I have a net book running osx and its not bad but a real macbook might suit me better.

Thanks for your reply

sorry may be I'm not make it clear but my budget is max 800$ and I don't want to spend more than that

If I could spend 500-700 that would be ideal

another question

1 is the dell mini 9 be able to install VMWare and ubuntu as virtual machine?

2 Can photoshop install and use in dell mini 9

Thank you

you really don't understand... the intel atom chip is used for "netbooks" aka miniature laptops for utilizing the interet... ie: internet and email.

seriously... you are better off buying a macbook.

Hello all, thank again for all the reply, I will consider buying the mac

one more question though

what about this laptop it is compatible with osx?

Look at the parts of the computer you want. Ask yourself if those parts were used in apple hardware. mac mini's used to use onboard intel gma950's. So, when you have a laptop with that graphics card. The graphics card will work. Non of the onboard intel 4500 will ever work (unless the "community" painfully does so). Nvidia cards are used in mac pro's so there are drivers for most all of them. you just have to figure out what hardware parts apple has and does use and make sure that what you get is that. other wise your going to do it the hardway. just a few concepts ive picked up along the way i thought i would share. Now I know all the graphics cards previously used on mac systems (mac mini, macbooks and the pro's).

some one set me straight if im wrong.

i think everyone here is pushing for the macbook with good intentions. I know if i had 800 i would sell plasma until i got the macbook.

If it was me I would go for a refurbished MacBook. Everything is guaranteed to work out of the box, and you get an up to date and legal copy of both the OS and iLife suite. Bootcamp will let you run XP or Vista, and Virtual Box will also let you do the same without re-booting. 802.11n, bluetooth, firewire and an easy to upgrade drive are all built in.

Price $849 + tax from Apple, for a 2.1 GHz or $649 no tax for a 2.0 from dealMac. Both need to be upgraded to a minimum of 2GB, but either are way more machine than an anemic Dell mini 9 with a tiny screen an expensive and slow miniPCI SSD drive and a keyboard that is 75% of full size.
