Bad-Dj Posted February 27, 2009 Share Posted February 27, 2009 Hello All, I am new and i love OSX but do not like Macs Hardware so i want to give this a go i downloaded iATKOS_5i and burnt it to a DVD at 4x speed. When i boot from the DVD i click enter and the line thing gos around and it says starting or something then the computer reboots its self? But it seems to be working on VMware i am installing it on that right now and so far its going good but i want to install it on my computer. Hardware MB: asus p5q-pro CPU: intel Q6600 HDD: 2x SATA|| 1) 160GB 2) 500GB So what can i do? would it be a bois setting? Gringo Vermelho Posted February 28, 2009 Share Posted February 28, 2009 Try these for BIOS settings: Set SATA to AHCI mode Under Power Management, enable ACPI 2.0 and additional ACPI APIC tables. Disable all APM features. Disable hardware or features that you're not going to use such as the serial port, floppy drive controller and extra P5Q-series features like Drive Expert and Express Gate. Only use the red SATA plugs on the motherboard. If your DVD drive is PATA, the only distro you'll be able to install currently is PCWiz' iPC 10.5.6 - it's the only distro currently available that'll let you boot from the Marvell 61xx controller used on most of the P5Q series. When you boot Boot from the install DVD type -v at the prompt (verbose) so you can see what's happening during boot. Gringo Vermelho Posted February 28, 2009 Share Posted February 28, 2009 You might be able to boot the DVD with the CPUS=1 flag. Some install DVDs don't like multicore CPUs. This flag disables all but one core. Don't worry, you can fix this later after you get the OS installed. Press F8 when the message about pressing F8 appears to get to the boot prompt and type "CPUS=1 -v" there, without the quotation marks. You can also try disabling the APIC setting (note ACPI APIC!!) in the BIOS. As a last resort, try resetting your CMOS. It's very easy to do and involves moving a jumper on your motherboard. Refer to your motherboard manual's BIOS section. If you decide to do this be aware your BIOS settings will be reset to default. You'll have to set SATA back to AHCI mode and so on. I didn't say that you have a PATA DVD drive - there was an "if" in that sentence. If you have a SATA DVD drive then fine. Disregard what I said about PATA drives and controllers. This is what i am doing maybe i am doing it wrong Reboot computer enter Bios (del key) -Change storage SATA to AHCI mode -Power Management enable ACPI 2.0 and ACPI APIC. -Save changes to bios. Reboot and put the DVD in It says to press enter to install OSX to i click enter this line comes up and it gos around ( | \/ | looking like that but one at a time) The it says starting something and then the computer reboots. So were about do i find the f8 bit to put the CPUS=1? Bad-Dj Posted February 28, 2009 Author Share Posted February 28, 2009 Okay i got it installed after editing the bios stuff right but when you try to boot into it using -v it just hangs on using "16384 buffer headers and 4094 cluster IO buffer headers" That the error what its mean and how can i fix it? You can try changing the ACPI and APIC settings in the BIOS to see if you can get it to boot further, but first try the CPUS=1 flag. Keep hitting F8 as soon as your motherboard finishes POST and device initialization. That should get you to the Darwin boot prompt. Then type CPUS=1 -v as I said before. If it freezes at the same spot, try booting again but this time with -x -v After booting from the DVD, how did you partition and format your harddrive and what did you select under Custom Install? Gringo Vermelho Posted March 12, 2009 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Okay this might sound funny but try booting from the DVD with -v As soon as it passes the IOAPIC and ACPI messages press the reset button and try booting from HDD with -s If it passes the APIC message and goes to a command prompt, do what it says on the screen, ie the fsck command. If it says 'file system modified' after running fsck, run it again. When it's done, type exit and press return and it should boot. That's the only way I can get my system to boot after it has been shut down.
