Ahnfeldt
I want to buy a Wireless N card for my hackintosh running OSX 10.5.6. I have been looking at two Dlink cards, DWA-556 and DWA-547. Witch one of these cards work best in OSX and do they require modified kexts? Thanks in advance /Tomas
EricCartman
Hi, the dwa-547 worked pretty good in my machine, no kexts were needed and it was recognized as aiport extreme card (which was very cool with the AirPort menu). I think there's no difference between the 556 and the 547, they only use another interface and I think the 33 MHz - PCI Busspeed of 133 MByte/s should be enough. The only prob I had with the 547 was, that it only run very slow ( 2MB/s, as fast as my former g Network). Placing it 2m next to the Airport Express Station boosted the data-rate to 4 MB/s; what's still very slow. I don't know, what I've done wrong. In 5 GHz Mode my iMac displays a data-rate around 230 MBit/s, so I guess it's not the AirPort Express' fault. Maybe you can get a better data-rate, would be very interesting. Since the DWA-556 is a little more expensive I'd go for a DWA-547.
