Freeze-up Problems

Hello,

 

I am running 10.5.4 via Kalyway and assorted combo updates. Most everything works fine and dandy, however I occasionally get random freeze-ups. They aren't system panics (though I sometimes get those at boot time and have to force safe mode then reboot!), but rather everything just stops all of a sudden. If I'm listening to music at the time that starts skipping, sometimes progress bars and the like continue to animate, but I can't do anything but reboot.

 

Now I'm not looking for a handout but rather wondering if you have any tips on diagnosing the problem. Thanks in advance for any help!

p.s. I forgot to mention it usually freezes after a while of doing something (e.g. Torrenting, ripping DVDs, etc, leading me to thing memory problem?)
