OSX isnt noticing my DVD drive at all. Its an LG 20x DVDRW+/- (i cant recall the exact model). I've been searching this forum all day and cant find a sollution for why my drive isnt showing up.

I've currently got 3 SATA devices connected to my motherboard

SATA0 - OSX Harddrive

SATA1 - Vista Harddrive

SATA2 - DVD RW

OSX will locate both the harddrives, but not the DVD drive. Is this something to do with Macs not having 3 SATA devices usually, does anyone know if moving my DVD to SATA1 might make it work?

Many thanks

-Rob ;)

Moving could help give it a try, one more thing when running either 10.5.2 or .3 or lower forget which one now I use to loose those ports (2-3 the 4-5 worked fine) an update since then has all of them working so if your running one of those lower versions you may want to upgrade.

Do all the sata ports show up in system profiler? In ahci mode all of them have to appear even if they have nothing plugged on.

You dont state which sata controller you have...

do i have to install a SATA controller?

and all the ports do show up on boot in AHCI mode..

Also if by ports showing up on boot you mean before starting up mac os x it doesnt really matter if they dont show up inside mac in system profiler, in the serial ata section you have to have as many entries as ports you have:

If all the ports show up there, but not the device, the problem might be the recorder, if you search the forum you will find some reports of troubles with sata recorders not working as they should.

well the DVD drive show up on boot, but not when i get into OSX.. Only my two harddrives show up when i go into the system profiler.

Unfortunaley my OSX installation has got stuck into an infinite boot cycle, so i think im going to reinstall and try again later this week.. :)

  • 4 weeks later...

i'm currently suffering with a similar problem :)

i have a Gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2 Motherboard with the nForce 405 chipset. i recently installed Kalway OSX 10.5.2 (The only one i could ever get to work on my AMD so far) i also have an LG 20x DVDRW (i believe its the GH20NS10) OSX doesnt show my DVD drive at all, but the weird thing is that apps like iTunes and Burner pick it up (although they cant access it and trying to burn to it always end in failure). my SATA hard drive picks up with no problems and i have full access to it. does anyone have an idea as to what could be wrong or how to solve it? sorry if i left out any details but im new to the whole OSX scene
