Hello,

Well, I don't usually check the activity monitor but I do from time to time, and I've noticed that it uses 2.6GB RAM of my 4GB total, in this moment tho I don't know what was it before but I was wondering is this normal, well having in mind I had many programs opened and browsing. Strange is that when I saw the usage I exited all the programs and it stayed on 2GB ( 1.4GB were free ) like when it was before I shutted down the apps. Of course I logged out and it was all normal again ( 500 - 600mb ).

I'm not saying there was a slow down or anything, I just regulary checked what's up in the AM and was kinda surprised..

Is this normal actually ? I've red in the apple website that the usage increases when you close/open apps and when you're simply working with the apps, and the system saves some for future using, and some stuff like that.

Anything I should worry about, or it's just normal system using.

Thanks very much !

That has everything to do with your question. Yes, Mac OS uses as much as possible of the available memory to store common data so it doesn't have load it from the harddrive, that's perfectly normal behavior for any *nix-based OS. Try to just use it without looking at AM and you won't notice a thing, when you do something that requires memory it clears it instantly.

Halligalli is correct. OSX will utilize as much of your memory as it can. If im correct windows machines will move data from ram to your pagefile when it is not necessarily needed at the time.

Did you read Macusers's post on the thread he linked to or just the 1st post on the thread?

Yeah that is exactly what windows does and if I had a nickel for every time I have seen a post from a windows user moving to a *nix system asking this question then I think I would be a rich man...
