jcafaro10
I had said before that I had almost got it working but I was actually pretty far off. This time I made sure to document everything I did. To start off, I'm using iATKOS 5i 10.5.5 on a DVD. I'm trying to install this to an external usb hard drive (western digital 120gb) attached to my Inspiron 1420. I pop in the DVD and boot to it using -v. I get several errorish looking things but it goes to the install screen. I run disk utility on my external drive and format it to Master Boot. Then I go to Customize. Here are the things that were checked off already: PC EFI V9 AppleDecrypt SMBIOS-EFI Disabler.kext. Here are the things I checked off: JMicron Intel SATA Intel AHCI SATA Kernel 9.2.0 TOH The install completes, reboots, I hit F12 to boot to the USB drive and it says "No boot sectors". Then it only tries to boot to the cd and do the whole thing over again. Leopard is installed on this drive somewhere, somehow, it just won't boot. 530sCheapMac
First off, If You are going to install to an external hard drive, you will not need either intel SATA drivers or the JMicron. I don't know about the kernel mod though. HOWEVER: This is the most important thing! It sounds like there is a problem swith your drive. No Boot Sectors means that either the partion is wrong (must be installed on your FIRST Partition, there can be others AFTER that), or that your comouter is not capable of actually booting from usb. I would suggest installing to an internal drive to save you the headache. See my thread http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=148963 for more Dell - OS X 86 shenanigans Good Luck! jcafaro10
I made only one partition! And my machine is capable of booting from USB. I'm afraid of touching my internal drive + it's already pretty full. I'll check out your guide but...can you think of any other things I may have forgotten that I need? Ps-Try both without checking anything off, and then your prefs. Good luck. jcafaro10
I'm running on a laptop so no back ports. It's a DVD r not rw. I'll try to mess around with some more settings. Should I take the DVD out afterrestart after install? I'd feel so much happier to know someone whose done this Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149481-iatkos-5i-failed-install/#findComment-1057836 Share on other sites
jcafaro10
Ok I'm a little closer. It booted to the hard drive. I did -v and one thing I noticed in yellow was about AppleAHCI failig to start or something. I don't think I saw any other errors but it was quick. It finished and I saw the pointer for a split second then it crashed Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149481-iatkos-5i-failed-install/#findComment-1058306 Share on other sites
jcafaro10
bump for thoughts on AppleAHCI Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149481-iatkos-5i-failed-install/#findComment-1058641 Share on other sites
jcafaro10
Well I got the AHCI error to go away by using x86 AHCI instead of the apple one. It still bails out after the grey screen. I think the last screen said something about missing a thermal or power kext or something. It was too fast to see clearly. I'll try again later. Any thoughts? Also, why does mine just cut off instead of just freezing like everyone elses? ForestGuardian
Post a picture of the last boot log in verbose mode (-v flag). It's likely a problem with power management -- perhaps an incompatible ACPI kext, or a lack of one. Does it restart, or just power down?
