Snollygoster
I have a 5.1 Creative Soundblaster External that works very nice under OSX. I have configured the card with Audio Midi Setup utility to 6 speakers. Tested them work just fine. I can have 5.1 sound in HD trailers in QuickTime. However, I have stereo in Apple DVD player and in iTunes I can't hear sound from the rear speakers. Anyone knows how to make these 2 applications work properly? jedikalex
I believe there's a MIDI tool in the Applications/Utilities folder that lets you set up surround sound. I Could very well be wrong as my internal onboard Creative Sound Blaster live-24bit doesnt work.. WHY oh WHY did I get a nonstandard Nforce 4 board.. macgirl
You can get 5.1 channels with Digital Output, there are no Multichannel in Mac OS X. I use my PowerBook and USB Sonica Theater with DVD Player, VLC and Quicktime but only get 5.1 sound with the Digital Output and a digital decoder of course (like a Home Theater). In DVD Player I select Digital Output, in VLC I select source 1 In audio settings, For QuickTime I select the Sonica as the default output in Audio Preference Panel. Snollygoster
You can get 5.1 channels with Digital Output, there are no Multichannel in Mac OS X. Oh, this is so not nice. What about getting the rear speakers working in iTunes? Not surround (as mp3/m4a are stereo) just duplicating/mirroring whatever the 2 front speakers play to the 2 rear speakers...? Is there any way to do this? I got a question, where do I get a USB 5.1 Audio Adapter and which one? This question goes out to those who have one, because I have been looking for a while now, and I cant seem to find one in Toronto, ON CA. Much help and appriciation. Snollygoster, which Creative Soundblaster External did you get? and Hey Macgirl, where did you get your USB Soncia Theater? Off the M-Audio Site? its $149.95 MSRP on the site. macgirl
I bought it here in Mexico, they have a distributor that handles M-Audio products, I'm thinking on buying a Transit since it has at least beta drivers and I use more the optical connector of my home theatre than the coaxial. I don't know about other brands but may in this site: http://www.osxaudio.com/ they can help you.
