Nvidia FX5500 working in 10.5.6 but with Glitches

Hi all,

This is the first time I'm trying to install osx in my very old p4 SSE2 PC, which make me clueless at some point in the installation. This is also the first time I checked AGPGart in my installation. I'm used to installing OSX in my newer and some new amd machines.

Anyway, this is my problem. I installed OS X in my old pc using iPC 10.5.6 (Thanks PCWiz and the others!) and my video card is FX5500. PCWiz indicated in his notes that If someone is using an older Geforce 5 series cards, NVKush COMPLETE package should be checked. So I did and it was awesome and worked fast! However, PCWiz also indicated that there are glitches in that driver and unfortunately I experience it. It usually shades the whole window as black. I read is some forums that FX5500 is dropped in 10.5.6?

My question is, If I install 10.5.5 in my older system and use the NVKush complete package, will I have those glitch problems?

Anyone using FX5500 here? What drivers are you using in leopard? 10.5.6 or 10.5.5?

Thanks!

Hi keplenk, I'm using the FX5500 with iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 and got it to work successfully using the Titan injector from Thico's installer here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=36044

I just installed the Titan.kext and added the device ID to the info.plist, the other files from the installer weren't required in 10.5.5. Even though this worked, I found that the best method for this card is to use EFI Strings. This gave me slightly better performance, but took a bit of time to figure out how to set it up.

I've also read that 10.5.6 has dropped support for the FX5500, so I'm going to stay with 10.5.5

Hey,

Here i also have problems concerning titan.kext/fx7500le/10.5.6

I have a retail install with boot123 system.......using the titan.kext to have my card 100% supported in 10.5.5...

After the update to 10.5.6 my titan.kext even didn't let me boot in the system anymore......without it, 10.5.6 loads (but strange screen things happening while moving finderwindows etc.)

Tried iPC 10.5.6......(after installing problems....not booting dvd....kp's).....to test the NVkush complete pack.....

This results in a blue screen with a mouse cursor....so doesn't load to desktop....although it seems to load a proper 1280x1024.

To be sure i installed NVkush complete pack also on the retail install (which is the end of the "retail" factor b.t.w.).....resulting in the same blue screen/cursor.

Ending up here in looking for simular isues.......

So lets join together.....and share knowledge on efistrings.....i never used them!

Dear keplenk

I have installed OSX86 10.5.6 in my PC with FX5500 without glitches. I installed the system with LegacyGeForce video kexts. I boot my PC in safe mode, with -v -x flags (if you boot without -x the system not boot). After, I installed the NVkush package (not NVkush Complete Package). Restart and boot with -v -x. It´s done, the System Preferences glitches desappear.

Enjoing.
