Kernel Panic when extracting .dmg with 10.5.6 ideneb

Hi guys, after having ideneb v1.3 10.5.5 i ran the updater following instructions and all installed ok but without sound. So, a few crashes and restored kext backups later i got everything back up and running but the following issues are occuring:

1) Sleep/Shutdown/Restart not working.

2) Computer freezes (Kernel Panic) after extracting and verifying a .dmg file

I'm not sure why this is happening as it didn't do this prior to updating to 10.5.6. All i did was run the preperation updater thingy (installed PM_Disabler kext and ran DSDTPatcher) located in one of the other threads and ran the 10.5.6 updater, then had to restore my extensions folder after i broke my install. Would restoring the old extensions have done this? If so, what do i need to reinstall to get it back working?

Help kindly appreciated

Using the seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5 will correct issue #2

Where do i get said kext from? I tried doing a replace in Time Machine but that did nothing even after a reboot.

Did you remove the Extensions.mkext or reboot with the "-f" kernel flag to force kext reload? If not, you were still using the previous version of seatbelt.kext.

As for where to get the kext, you might try downloading the 10.5.5 combo update from allpe and then use Pacifist to install just the required kext. If you don't have Pacifist that might be problem since it comes as a .dmg which you can't currently load.

It is for times like this that I always keep an external USB drive loaded with the previous version of OS X. You know, just in case.

That did the trick! Used an old backup i had from a different install and did your method of deleting extensions.mkext and then rebooting -f

Many thanks

*Edit* Nup, only worked on a Roxio Toast.dmg, but still panic'd on three others.

My install method was:

go to system, library, extensions, seatbelt.kext

open time machine and restore the file, overwriting original

then copied file to desktop, deleted the one in extensions

installed using kext helper

deleted extensions.mkext

rebooted with -F

Did I do something wrong?

I had this problem when i installed XxX 10.5.6 on a Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 laptop. It doesn't happen on all dmg. With the dmg that was causing the problem, I opened it with Disk Utility (not mounting it) and then right click on the dmg and choose "Convert image" (or something like that). And resave the image (defaults to Documents) and mount that image. Its a pain, but it works.

Why don't you try it and see if it works.

seatbelt.kext is an Apple file. Doesn't have anything to do with the voodoo kernel.

If you used the original Apple kernel/system.kext from 10.5.5 on 10.5.6, you'd still need seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5.
