RollingMac
http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/p...s&cs=cadhs1 The spec looks very nice. Inspiron 13 is said to be a so-called UMPC and it got the same slot loading optical drive as the Macbook has. Can anyone confirm this will be able to have Hacintosh on top? If yes, I will definitely got one. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143240-is-dell-inspiron-13-gonna-be-the-macbook-subtitute/ Share on other sites
UnaClocker
UMPC? Eh, that's REALLY stretching the definition of ULTRA mobile.. The Mini9 is much smaller, therefore better fits the ULTRA part of UMPC.. It runs OSX very nicely. nonameo
I have an inspiron 1318 (same thing) and here's what I have working: Using iATKOS 5i install DVD and this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t134510.html SATA - I was unable to get AHCI SATA to work. Go into your bios and enable ATA emulation. Install the normal intel SATA kexts and not the AHCI ones. Video w/ slashack kexts. It was a pain in the butt getting it to boot right after OSX was installed. I'm assuming the display kext would lock up after a while as the display would black out and the spinning indicator would stop moving( I was only able to verify this by switching to an external display) Here's how I got past it: w/ assistance from the above linked thread: I was not able to get the wait 5-6 minutes and then try it method to work. Someone else posted about switching back and worth between the external display and the laptop display, which only produced a corrupted screen on both displays. Then another poster suggested starting the computer on the external display. I WAS able to get this to work, but only with some modification. First, you must MAKE SURE that you start up the external display before getting into any part of OSX. What I did: Press F12 to get the BIOS boot selector and switch there. Press Fn F8 to switch displays. After you have switched displays, wait until the screen blacks out and hook up an external mouse.(yes, I know this sounds crazy...) move it around and try to wake the display as soon as you can(as a precautionary). Install the slashack x3100 drivers AS SOON as you are able to log in! Also set all 4 corners of expose to sleepdisplay, per linked thread.ALSO, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you enable MIRRORED DISPLAYS! It will produce corruption as long as you have the second display hooked up, and it is a pain in the butt to get it back to extended desktop. Note: There may be a way to make it work from the command line, but I am not sure as to what it would be. It would probably involve installing the slashack kexts from the command line. You probably won't be able to log in though, as there is no root password set yet. There might be a way to do it from the install DVD, but I did not get that far as I was able to get the above listed method to work. audio - MUST use HDApatcher 1.16. I have tried all the way up to 1.20 and none of higher versions will work. Also, I am unable to get the headphone port to work properly. I have been able to get audio to output to the port, but it does not cut off the speakers on the laptop. Note: I used the kext from the PCguy thread listed above. The kext is available in the first post, I do believe. Also, to use HDApatcher you must drag the linux dump text file onto the HDApatcher icon. I installed the kext first with osx86tools and then patched it with HDApatcher. You cannot get it just by using 1.16 though. Use a higher version(which will not work by itself) and then use 1.16 on top of it. 1.16 by itself will not output to headphones at all. Clamshelldisplay from the dell post-installer only half-works. When I shut the lid it will sleep, but it will wake up afterwords and sleep again. Dell post-installer 1.41 does not work for me. Use 1.3.1 Use the post installed to install the wireless driver. I have not messed with the onboard 10/100 as I do not need it. Oh yes, also be sure to follow PCguy's install configuration to the T. Boot Loader: PC EFI V9 (I also tried Chameleon and that worked too)X86 Patches Decrypter: dsmos SMBIOS Drivers SMBIOS Enabler (I don't use) SMBIOS for X86: AppleSMBIOS Netkas Kernel: 9.5.0 Kernel Voodoo ACPI: x86 ACPI Disabler.kext: Yes (check box) OHR: Yes (optional, this works with or without) Drivers: Intel: X3100 EFI String for Intel System: SATA/IDE: Intel SATA (or choose Intel AHCI SATA if you have your BIOS in AHCI mode). Remember booting Windows XP will need to turn off AHCI. Speedstep: Intel Speedstep a Laptop Battery: Yes NTFS 3G (optional, if you want to write to NTFS drives then check this box Network: None needed. For wireless to work, use the driver in this post and repair permission. I would also reccomend downoading osx86tools. This will help with installing kexts and enabling quartz extreme. http://######.com/osx86tools/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143240-is-dell-inspiron-13-gonna-be-the-macbook-subtitute/#findComment-1083623 Share on other sites
