HDD - I know that it is possible to upgrade HDD drives in laptops.. correct me if I am wrong.. graphic chipset.. I have some doubts that it might be possible.. but I have already asked here in the forum how to get more shared memory for the chipset once I am running 4 gb, and I can have 256 to 512 mb of memory being shared with the graphic system although I don't know how far can I benefict of that Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143229-knowing-the-limits-of-mac-upgrading/ Share on other sites
Berzerker
CPU and GPU are a no-go. They are soldered onto the logic board. HDD is very upgradeable. Check ifixit.com for instructions pertaining to your model. Synaesthesia
Exactly. The Hard drive is easy to upgrade in Macbooks, and well worth it. A 7200RPM drive gives a big performance boost Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143229-knowing-the-limits-of-mac-upgrading/#findComment-1020215 Share on other sites
Wrenbird
A 7200 RPM Hard Drive would be a valuable asset, however I have read that the Seagate Momentus 5400.6 500GB model cranks out speeds very similar to a 7200 rpm drive. It uses very little power, runs silently, and ice cold as well. For $110 you can't go wrong. plugwash
macbook hard drive upgrades are pretty easy, After removing the ram cover you just grab the plastic tab attatched to the drive caddy (the drive sits at the front of the laptop next to the battery) and pull it out. Then swap the drive on the caddy and shove it back in, The only caveat (which apple don't mention in thier instructions, they seem to assume that your new drive will already be on a macbook drive caddy) is that you need a torx screwdriver of the right size to transfer the caddy from old drive to new drive. Also make sure you get a suitable drive. It must be a 2.5 inch 9.5mm high sata drive (laptop drives come in two heights, 9.5mm is the smaller size, 13mm is the larger). dzion32
I believe the caddy screws are the size T8, if I remember correctly from when I swapped my hard drive.
