ultran00b
i've been a windows guy all my life, loved using windows... but now... i think i'm starting to see the light. I know my next laptop (once I get the $$) will likely be a MacBook or I might get a Mini... I'm not sure yet. I do really want to feel my way around before I take the plunge... I've been trying to read (mainly this site and osx86) and get myself ready for this moment (like a virgin bride trying to research her wedding night). I'll start with my specs: I have 2 machines, a desktop (SSE2) and a laptop (SSE3). I'd prefer getting it working on my desktop. The desktop is a self made machine (not brand name). The parts: Gigabyte Technology GA-8IG1000MK 2 GIGS RAM 2 HARD DRIVES (Would like to dual boot with Winblows until I am 100% comfortable) ATI 2400 Video Card Integrated Sound Integrated Lan I think I would like to install Leopard. Which release should I get? Kalyway, etc? There's something called Boot 132, does that apply/work for me and my machine? During the install process, will I have to do anything special? Both my hard drives are 60% full right now. I'm assuming it'd be ideal to move everything to one drive and leave one physical drive exclusively for leopard. What pitfalls am I facing? What should I be aware of? I really do appreciate you guys taking your time to help out...
Geo877
Im no expert, in fact, i know near to nothing about anything kernel and kexts or w/e, my installation went pretty smoothly using Kalyway, You'll have tones of support with generic devices like wireless. I have two hard drives, dual booting is no problem. If you're looking for a solid install by the looks of things you'll need to do it on the SSE3.Kalyway info < thats the kalyway iso, just google the name for the torrent. Not to sure about your ATI card but it's always worth a try. But before you go ahead just spend an hour or two just searching the Wiki and forums for similar installs and tutorials. Good luck, it's really worth doing! Im dead impressed with mine, and definitely buying a leopard license.
ultran00b
thanks for the reply the other reason i'm even thinking of a mac is because i want to get my father hooked on it; he's always downloading viruses and stuff while online and i would think that operating a mac would be more beneficial to him. I might try it tonight or tomorrow... i'm not sure of what will go wrong... so if i try the Kalyway install, theoretically it should go somewhat flawless?
