alnova1
My 10.5.6 experience was not a good one. No firewire, shutdown, restart, sleep and...NO TIME MACHINE. Well after reformatting and re-installing XxX 10.5.5, i have everything running fine but TIME MACHINE. I have tried all the fixes that worked before I had upgrade to 10.5.6...IONetworkingfamily..blah,blah,blah..switching my time machine to none and still nothing! I did a search on backup software for Mac and Carbon Copy Cloner came up. It says you can schedule backups. My question is, has anyone ever used this for a continuous backup? I can't tell you how frustrated I am at TIME MACHINE. I am by no means an expert on OSX86 but I have been able to get TIME MACHINE running with the proper fixes. I HATE TIME MACHINE! :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141752-i-give-up-on-time-machine/ Share on other sites

boba899
I hate tobe the arse that says it but Time Machine is designed to work with Apple Macs. I am fully aware OS X is too but.. Don't blame Time Machine itself, it's something to do with your setup. I used a 10.4.11 XxX disc and found it very unstable, JaS 10.4.8 was the first one I used and never failed me. Try another distro, nothing to lose. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141752-i-give-up-on-time-machine/#findComment-1006274 Share on other sites

boba899
He put what I was saying bluntly, but you you say does raise a point for me. If you have four other Macs, can you really have that much data on one that you don't have on one of the other four? I'd go for an alternative like Super Duper! or Carbon Copy Cloner. If you're really that fed up with it and your in the situation that you have four genuine Macs ready to go, leave it. This a support forum, and your post isn't looking for support, it's more like a moan about one function that isn't working. I know it's frustrating, I've had more than my fair share of pain with trying to get this blooming operating system working, but let it go and be happy with those four pieces of loveliness you've got Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141752-i-give-up-on-time-machine/#findComment-1006460 Share on other sites

I know it's frustrating, I've had more than my fair share of pain with trying to get this blooming operating system working, but let it go and be happy with those four pieces of loveliness you've got I'm sorry that I have 4 others there my friend but the fact of the matter is that they are Imacs..you cant really open them up and tinker with them. I have a Quad-Core that I am running Hackintosh on...something I bought for a really good deal...something that will work better on Adobe and Video editing. I refuse to use Windows because it sinks...and by the way, asking a question about which software is better is not really moaning so I'm sorry that my one little function isn't working, I just wanted some feed back from someone that had Carbon Copy Cloner. Let me give you some advice, if you don't want all the pain that goes along with trying to get this to run, GO BUY A MAC. I HATE TIME MACHINE! :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: Did you make a restore from your Time Machine?, because if you do that Time Machine pick up where you left, but, if you did a clean install, you change the specs of your machine and Time Machine fail to backup, so, if you have your older backups on Time Machine do a restore from Time Machine and everything is going to be good, remember to reinstall Efi_v8 to make your disc bootable or whatever boot you use. I myself have the problems with 10.5.6 and do the restore from TM and pick backing up where I left. Good luck and remember Time Machine is the best friend you could have!. diabolist
Have you tried installing an older version of IONetworkingFamily.kext. Using the 1.6.0 version fixed TimeMachine on 10.5.6 for me, after trying lots of other stuff HTH Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141752-i-give-up-on-time-machine/#findComment-1024878 Share on other sites
