maroder
Hi, just updated my system without major problems with this guide: http://insanelymac.blogspot.com/2008/12/pr...pdating-to.html After Installing the 10.5.6 Update, I patched my system with ls814 (thanks ls8!) and it now runs perfectly again. I have no issues with laggy mouse etc. The only thing is that sleep doesn't seem to work anymore. Worked flawless in 10.5.5. Thanks for this great thread with loads of input Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/20/#findComment-1003394 Share on other sites
mindlessmissy
Wow guys, i have been updated successfully my hackintosh to 10.5.6 through "Software Update" Utility...And i noticed that the system loads faster...I have even updated Safari to 4.0, Java for OS X & QuickTime plugins all these with the Software Update...i advise you very much to update your system... You mean "Safari 4.0" can actually be updated using Software Update ? I thought it was only released to developers ... cyclonefr
well it seems for some people, including me, we have some lags with itunes and QT, and some others dont for some reason... Maybe it's random therefore people arent reporting this elsewhere. But for sure it isn't my PC, it works perfectly on 10.5.5 and i'm 99% vanilla (i only use a patched jmicronata.kext)... Sengo
Yeah same , has to be something wich is causing this thing ... I never had any trouble before this update , machine was always fast . Sengo
I've only updated my Ap Macs, not the hackintosh, but maybe the lagging is being caused by a) an update to the opengl framework or b ) GenericCpuPowermanagement kexts. I know that for some users with option b the cpupowermanagement kexts and intelcpupowermanagement can sometimes slow a system down. Just a thought, will see if I experience the lagging when I update my box later today. K , let us know of how it goes please . But well there are new drivers in this update , thing is that only some people are facing this issue , something like 50/50 on terms of people affected and people not affected atm (with 8800gt cards anyway) . When i launch itunes i get no errors etc on console so it's making figuring out te issue a bit harder Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/20/#findComment-1003469 Share on other sites
tomv
hello! both proposed solutions as wrote in the quotes didn't work for me. I updated from 10.5.4 and everything else is working better as before except the time machine. any more solutions? Ok, thanks to the #osx86 IRC i found the solution to the Time Machine problem for those who have issues after 10.5.6 Upgrade. If you have Time Machine setup and after the 10.5.6 update get this Error with time machine: "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found." Here is the FIX: -Download EFIStudio (http://spotlight.hopto.org/osx86/EFIStudio.zip) -Run EFIStudio -change 'device' to ethernet -Click Add Device - Click write to com.apple.boot.plist -reboot. The problem should be fixed Oh thank you ... I found the alternate solution but thanks for the tip. Copy the file contained in the attachment into the /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/MacOS/ directory over-writing the one already there then as root in Terminal. rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Caches rm -r /System/Library/Caches rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext Reboot then hit the F8 key when the drive starts to be accessed to get to the Darwin boot loader to type in then enter key -f to force the reloading/caching of all .kext on the system it should now work. iRipper
Hey guys ! First post here in this great forum But I keep track on what's happening here. Updated to 10.5.6 after 3 tries. Lost PS2 mouse and keyboard, but got them back with new kexts for them (had to use virtual keyboard and USB mouse to type in the password ) Also fixed TimeMachine. No kernel panics on mounting .dmg's. Boot up is slower and I have some mouse lags in iTunes Hoping for a fix. Patteri
I have Asus A8N-SLI mobo and athlon 4200 x2 processor with sata hard drive. Of course voodoo kernel 9.5. My 8800 Gts 512Mb (g92) work with efi string, in 10.5.6. But my USB hard-drive doesn't work. Also I have kernel panic when launch VmWare Fusion 2.0. I also have same problem in 10.5.6 which I had in 10.5.5. When extracting files or hard drive read a lot some files, mouse become unstable and cursos "jumping" in the creen, also sounds scratch. Annoying problem Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/20/#findComment-1003542 Share on other sites
SickRick
Hardware listed in sig. Booted from my "utility" kalyway install. Backed up my retail install to an image (just in case). Applied solo (not combo) update. System booted without incident. Logged error 35's, TimeMachine not working (backup volume not found), sound not working. Re-applied ionetworkingfamily patch for error 35 & time machine - fixed issue. Re-applied applehda & hdaenabler kexts - audio fixed. Everything else works without issues. Only visible issue is; CPU shows up as 4GHZ. Left cpumanagementkext from update in place - no cpu heating issues. This one was pretty painless. I only hope Snow is as painless... Or you could install the 10.5.5 video kext's This will also fix the problem Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/20/#findComment-1003553 Share on other sites

BlackCH
Installed on the machine from the signature. I lost USB2 support and restart/shutdown. I installed the PCgenericEHCI.kext, and both problems were gone but just for one boot. Installed some patched USB kexts; same behavior. So rollin' back to 10.5.5 for now.... Going to try a fresh install+update on a spare drive. BTW I could boot without the DSDT patch...(with the CPUPMDisabler.kext on) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/20/#findComment-1003607 Share on other sites

Sengo
Meh ... tried a bunch of EFI strings and different 10.5.6 packs and install methods and always the itunes lag problem . There is no mouse lags if i dont install the drivers obviously only after using the efi string things go wrong Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/20/#findComment-1003666 Share on other sites

I have the same setup and have 8600gt fully supported using NVDarwin installer. Just make sure to remove all injectors and strings before you install it or it will not work. YoMuS
Maybe I'm , but why we don't get the security update along with 10.5.6 ? Security update 008 is already integrated in the .5.6 update. sampledi
Update on firewire issues: on GA-P35-DS3R, when I boot without dsdt.aml Firewire is back in system profile! Retail, EFI v9. Must have kexts inside "Extra" folder: AppleDecrypt, Disabler, SMBIOSResolver, OpenHaltRestart I'm just not sure who can and who can not boot without DSDT.aml Considering 8800GT: as I said in previous posts (and documented in video example), for me it is working great on couple workstations and I could not reproduce mouse lag problem on any of them. It would be good to find two similar (identical) hardware setups with same installation method, one with problems and one without, so that we can compare and determine what could cause QT issues. So, if somebody with: | Gigabyte P35 board (ds3r, ds3, ep35...etc), 8800GT, Retail install |, have QT (iTunes) problem I have some time to compare all details.
