macattackjack
Okay, Here's my story First the question though. Has anyone been able to get the sound to work using the Asus P4P800-MX motherboards. I installed the Kalyway 10.5.1 version, patched the PCGenRTL8139Ethernet-1.2.0 kext using kext helper, and the built in ethernet works fine. USB is okay, though I'm not sure if it's as fast as it's suppose to be. I have a USB 2.0 usb card in the motherboard as well, and the transfer rates though the card seems the same as the built in port. Video works, but there's no Quartz Extreme. I can live with that. The only problem is the OS doesn't recognize the built in ADI 1888 audio. The AC97 kext is version 3.00 from apple, and the other posts I've seen here on the forum are for earlier versions and don't work. Does anyone have a version of the AC97 kext that they know does work with this motherboard? The funny thing is, is that I did the kalyway install using a P4P800S-X and the audio works fine without any patches. When I bought the P4P800-MX motherboard, I connect the hard drive with the OS on it that I was using with the P4P800S-X just to see what would happen, and it loaded fine. It wasn't until later I realized the built in audio on the motherboard didn't work. As I said before, previous posts with other patches for earlier versions of OSX haven't worked. As far as the install the observations I can give are these. I've got a few of the P4P800-MX and P4P800S-X motherboards, as well as a number of P4 processors. As far as these boards are concerned, I've noticed that if there's a loop between the first post of the motherboard, and after the bootloader starts, then it's the processor. Various attempts at starting the bootloader with "update -v" or -s, etc. make no difference whatsoever. If there's a loop, it's the processor. I've got a few 3 gig/1meg/800 processors, and two of them work, one gives me a loop. I've got a couple of 2.4 gig/512 meg/800 processors, and neither work, but the first install I did was with a 2.4 gig/1m/800 processor (I think) So, my advice with loops, is: try different bootloader commands, but chances are, you'll need to change something in your hardware. In my experience with the P4's, it's the processor. I should also say, I got lucky. When I did my first install of the Kalyway 10.5.1, I had an extra P4P800S-X board so I decided to try to load it to see what would happen. My first try with Kalyway didn't work. At first, the install disk didn't work with the DVD drive. Changed that and then it worked. Well it worked, but after a certain point, the screen went black, but I could hear the hard drive and DVD drive going, so I figured it was the vga card. I swapped it out with a different card (radeon ati S60 agp card) and it worked well enough to allow me to load the OS and boot from the hard drive. This card didn't give Quartz Extreme, and I later upgraded to a nvidia agp card on the 10.5.1 compatibility list. Still, I didn't have to do any of the -s or -v commands at the bootloader or do any editing of the kexts to get things to work. The only downside is whenever I come across a bug in a program, my first thought is that it's some incompatibility in the Kalyway 10.5.1 patch. But then I check on an other mac I have or talk to other people using a particular program, and if the bug is duplicated, I know it's program, not the system. So again my question is, has anyone been able to get the OS to recognize the ADI1888 built in audio on the Asus P4P800-MX motherboard to work using Kalyway 10.5.1, and if so, is the patch posted anywhere? macattackjack
Well since everyone was so helpful... lol. I saw that deneb has a version of 10.5.5 that someone intalled on the p4p800-mx. Guess I'll try that.
