Just potentially built a hackintosh to build for myself for Christmas. Trying to keep the cost down initially and adding things as time goes on, here is the list of up front parts.

Here are my plans:

  • ASUS P5QL PRO Motherboard
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz
  • Kingston HyperX 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 1066MHz x 4(total of 8GB, may start with just 4GB until I can really afford the rest)
  • I have a new Antec 430 Watt power supply hanging around
  • MSI GeForce 9600GT 512MB Video Card
  • 250GB SATA Seagate HD(will add in one or two 1TB drives later)
  • I've also got an IDE Lite-On DVD-RW that I can use until I buy a nice SATA drive.

I'm on the fence on what to do with the case - I'd like to use a Powermac G5 case, but it seems like a hassle to do and modify and junk. I will probably just end up going with a standard ATX case to keep things easier.

Thoughts, problems, ideas on this setup?

Thanks for the insight in advance, I checked the MB to make sure people have had good luck with it thus far, and it seems to be good. I'll be using iDeneb 10.5.5 for the install.
