setec
Yes, your Mac OS X will automatically mount your NTFS partition so you can READ the files. And MAC OS X uses HFS+ as a fle system. And your english is just fine. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13768-ntfs-partition-macosx/#findComment-87536 Share on other sites
marliwahoo
Yes you can read - but you can not write ntfs files. Oddly mac's, for a few years now, can read/write ntfs files over a network. anorris
"Oddly mac's, for a few years now, can read/write ntfs files over a network." I believe that would be because over a network, file system doesn't matter, because over ethernet they all use the same method of file transfer, similar to the way http and ftp work. Dj Antonino
so if I have a NTFS partition only for data, I can read/write from windows, but only read from MACosx, right? in this case I think the best solution is, when I'll have to to write data from macosx, to use my WD passport 60Gb external HD, formatted in FAT32.. and then pass the data from the USB hd to the ntfs data partition in windows.. about the HFS+ partition... does the macosx boot dvd create this type of partition? or I need something like partition magic? Thanks for your help!! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13768-ntfs-partition-macosx/#findComment-87550 Share on other sites
miliuco
I believe that would be because over a network, file system doesn't matter, because over ethernet they all use the same method of file transfer Yes, really Osx doesn't write to shared NTFS partitions because it doesn't see it, Osx manages the bytes (SMB = server message blocks, also named CIFS) in a format that can read and write, the filesystem does't matter if they all are able to act as SMB clients or servers. about the HFS+ partition... does the macosx boot dvd create this type of partition? Yes and it's the filesystem used by default. Partition Magic can create FAT, NTFS, linux EXT2, linux EXT3 and linux swap partitions but not HFS+. setec
Using WinXP's diskpart command you can create an Apple partition: create partition primary size=6660 id=af You can make the size whatever you want or just leave it blank to use all the free space left that is unaccounted for.
