HunterGuy2
So I have OSX 10.5.4 running pretty well on my XPS M1530, thanks to MacGirl and devilhood's guides, with a few relatively minor exceptions. I still have a few questions though, relating to a general understanding of what the **** does what =) 1. "Vanilla kernel" - On iAtkos 4.1i, if I select "Stock Kernel" and "Stock ACPI", does this automatically mean that I have a vanilla kernel? Or is a vanilla kernel if I don't check anything at all?... Is it something else altogether? If I have a vanilla kernel, is it possible to de-vanilla-ify it somehow during post install? 2. Is Sleep supposed to work on a vanilla kernel? I've never been quite clear on this, since there are all sorts of "sleep kernels" floating around. Personally, I can't get sleep to work (just reboots), despite trying a couple 'sleep fixes', i.e. ehcisleepenabler.kext and the pmset fix. I'm kind of wondering if I need to swap a kernel to make it work. I'm running on a Core2Duo system, so I thought vanilla would work (assuming that's what I have). 3. iAtkos 4.1i says it installs PC_EFIv8 by default, and I also selected Chameleon. Does this make my system an EFI system? What's the difference between EFI solutions? 4. What does AppleACPIThermal.kext actually do? All I've heard so far is "if your CPU heats up too fast, remove this kext", with no explanation of the original function. It's been ambiguous so far as to whether there are any harmful effects to removing it, when the cpu isn't overheating to begin with. Thanks.
