For my Bad Axe 2 I bought 4x 2GB 800MHz CL5 DIMMs from "Aeneon".

Unfortunately the board will not boot, no matter which memory slot I chose. Even with just one DIMM installed.

Interestingly it boots up if I use 1x of the new Aeneon DIMMs + 1x of my old RAM (1GB "MDT" CL4 533MHz)

Does the Bad Axe not accept CL5 DIMMs?

YES it will work with!

I run that Intel D975XBX2 Bad Axe 2 - Board with CL5-RAM:

1) Corsair XMS2 DHX 2048MB DDR2-800 PC2-6400U CL5-5-5-18 Kit

(= TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX • 2x 1024MB Module • 1,8V)

and then I changed to

2) Corsair XMS2 DHX 4096MB DDR2-800 PC2-6400U CL5-5-5-18 Kit

(= TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX • 2x 2048MB Module • nur für 64bit Betriebssysteme!)

3) Also tested both together (2x1GB + 2x2GB = 6GB) only for short interrest one day. After that I used the other old 2 GB in another PC - course I planed to switch to the maximum of 8 GB later.

But I don´t tested it with 8 GB - this seams to be a problem with IDE-kext/-driver... - may be a solution with any of these "JMicron IDE ... patches"

(look here: http: chameleon . osx86 . hu on the side).

So - a few month ago I switched to a Gigabyte EP35-DS4. It will support all 8 SATA-Ports. And since yesterday it run very good with a retrailinstallation 10.5.5.. I am still in tests, but it seams to be that only two things are not near 100%:

- Software-PowerOff will shut down without the fans - there for I need the PowerButton

- Software-Sleep will work inkl. the fans - but to WaheUp I need the PowerButton

- ScreenSafer will comes after 20 minutes "waiting" by ignoring my setings

...and today my Boot-test-from-SoftwareRAID failed... (-:

Thanks for your reply, wingwing.

So CL5 doesn't seem to be the problem. Maybe it's due to Aeneon's cheap RAM.

Actually it does not have anything to do with OS X as the board does not even show the POST and the monitor won't show anything.

Any further experiences with CL5 RAM and the BadAxe2?
