JeanLuc7
Salut, Yesterday I installed this Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 on two hacks. Today I wondered why Time Machine failed. The console log said: Nov 3 09:01:22 [Computername] /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[188]: Volume at path /Volumes/[Computername] Backup does not appear to be the correct backup volume for this computer. (Cookies do not match) Nov 3 09:01:28 [Computername] /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[188]: Backup failed with error: 18 I tried to fix it by applying the combo update 10.5.5 - unsuccessful. As I did not need all the older backups I formatted the USB disk and created a new TM volume - unsuccessful. Then I remembered this Update installation and found the following using Pacifist: This 2008-004 Update installed two kexts: IO80211Family and IONetworkingFamily. After replacing them with the ones from my 10.5.5 installation everything works fine again in both machines. So I will not install this update on my machines again. egray
Thank you! Worked for me. I used my last Time Machine backup to get the kexts - I used Time Machine to fix Time Machine. JeanLuc7
Update: just replace the IONetworkingFamily.kext. After this the package will never appear again in the update manager. You can extract the original IONetworkingFamily.kext via Pacifist from the OSX86 installation disk. MacUser2525
Hi JeanLuc7, is it possible to post these two kexts so ppl can download? I don't seem to find them on my hack as I don't use time machine to back up You don't need the whole .kext just the IONetworkingFamily that is inside it I have attached to this post copy it with something similar to the below changing the path to where it was extracted too then remove the Extensions.mkext and caches then when rebooting use F8 key when booting to get to the Darwin boot loader to type in then hit enter key -f to force the reload/caching of all .kext on the system to get it to see the changes. cp /Volumes/path/to/extracted/IONetworkingFamily /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/MacOS/ IONetworkingFamily.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134554-solution-time-machine-fails-after-airport-extreme-update-2008-004/#findComment-998553 Share on other sites
