Morphius Faydal
How do you know they're not working? My Q6600 on a P35 is working with all 4 cores.
SwithDrawn
I have dual quad xeons, all eight cores worked by default. You could try getting MenuMeters and seeing how many graphs show up
vahnx
I do not see any of the Processors in "About my Mac" except the 1 core. and i have to do cpus=1 or else it doesn't work.
Morphius Faydal
Hit "More Info" in the "About this Mac" screen and it should tell you how many cores.
vahnx
Thats what im saying its showing 1. and i can only boot using cpus=1 i tried booting to see the error but ti restarts at the exact same spot.
scififan68
What kernel do you use? I know someone who got all 4 cores working on his Q9450 by using the voodoo beta 2 kernel.
verdant
Thats what im saying its showing 1. and i can only boot using cpus=1 i tried booting to see the error but ti restarts at the exact same spot. If you have to boot at the Darwin boot: prompt with cpus=1 then you will have only 1 core working.......suggest you try another kernel...... Morphius Faydal
Go into Activity Monitor (Finder --> Applications --> Utiliites --> Activity Monitor). At the bottom of the screen it will show the CPU activity box(s). If you really only have 1 core working, then there will be only 1 box. If you have 4 cores working, then there will be 4. If there is only 1, I would suggest doing as verdant suggested and finding a different kernel.
vahnx
Is there a specific kernel recommended for my processor?
Morphius Faydal
I'm using stock (vanilla) kernel on mine.
vahnx
im using that one but it only run with 1 cpu using cpus=
Morphius Faydal
I don't have to do that. Maybe a difference between the G33 and P35 chipsets is causing the issue? EDIT: Also; I installed off of the iATKOS v4.1i disk (OS X 10.5.4). I doubt it'll make a difference, but really; mobo and choice of install disk are the only differences between our two systems. vahnx
IM trying using StageXNU kernel right now with default everything. btw when you install and you check the PC Hardware stuff should it see the 4 cores?
Morphius Faydal
When i go into System Profiler, under "Hardware" (the main label, not the sub-labels) I show "Total number of cores: 4" If that's what you mean.
vahnx
i don't get how to pick the boot up kernel. you think you could help on that?
Morphius Faydal
No idea. If this were Linux and GRUB... No sweat. OS X... No idea. This is where someone with experience in this sort of thing should jump in and tell us noobs how it is.
vahnx
im trying another install. and gonna try to delete a file that caused a panic and see if it sees all my cores after that.
