LouCioccio
I just finished building my hackintosh. I used Kalyway and instructions from this site. I am now re-installing my software. What works and took the legit software serial numbers. Adobe PSE 6 and Final Cut Express HD took their numbers and work. iLife08 works, I am having a problem with Olympus Studio Software. I have installed Studio 1.0 and updated that to 1.51. This took a serial number and that had no problems. The upgrade software is Studio 2 by Olympus and they (Olympus gave me a serial number) which worked in my G5. I then tried to instal in the hackintosh and I get wrong serial number. Now the odd thing is previous install of Kalyway I failed in reading the instruction along the way to upgrade as I was tweaking the system. In one of those installs I was able to get Oly Studio 2 to work. It was during the 10.5.5 update that the update froze and I tried the instructions here on the hpet error but could not resolve. When I did re-install Kalyway this is the problem I am getting with Olympus Studio 2 software. I tried changing some kext files but I am still encountering the problem. My guess it is software related. Any ideas to look for. I did look into logs but nothing stuck out as usual. Ciao, Lou Cioccio

LouCioccio
This one particular software which I like to use on my G5 which enables either my E1 or E500 to work tethered. This time I erased the drive and re-installed the kalway DVD for 10.5.1. I then downloaded the Apples updates from .2 to .5 and installed them individually. Along the way I don't know which update I lost my sound and at the last (.5) I got some errors but it went to the desktop. Naturally I repaired permissions rebooted in single user mode fsck and then booted again; same errors. Apple System Profiler is wrong now and I have no sound. So now I install the Studio 2 software from Olympus and it takes the serial number. Now i am at work so tomorrow I will see if it will work with the camera tethered and install the other software that has serials to see if they work. Stay tuned. Ciao, Lou Cioccio
LouCioccio
Okay I was able to install Olympus Studio 2. It took the serial number and I can shoot tethered with the E1 either at the camera or at the computer. Update works. I then tried a different version of AppleSMBIOS.kext to see if that was the problem. It was. I could not get past the opening dialog screen of Studio. I did note that in -v mode there was an error on the Olympus camera plugin. So I put the apple AppleSMBIOS.kext file back in. ASP (Apple SYstem Profiler) has an error reading the hard ware. The About This Mac incorrectly list the processor speed at 3.8 Ghz but the rest is correct an Intel Core 2 Duo and ram is right at 4GB but 0 speed. Just finished loading PSE6, iLife08, FCE_HD so I will see how these work. Ciao, Lou Cioccio
LouCioccio
Every thing seems to work. I was able to use iPhoto and Final Cut Express even made a short slide show with effects. So I think its working okay. So I am going on the assumption Apple System Profiler is more cosmetic. If I run Activity I see dual CPU's and they are working. gizmoarena
Question number 1: What is serialized software?
LouCioccio
Software that takes a serial number. Examples like Photoshop, Cocktail even Pacifist. The numbers unlock the software. I did get some help from Olympus but I did not tell them I was using a "hackintosh". I imagine I have broken some software laws down the road. What I don't understand is how AppleSMBIOS.kext files reads the the system and what effect it had on the Olympus Studio 2 not taking the serial number. I think it creates a number to check that its legal some what like Adobe and Windows so you can finalize the software install. So something must be broken. The system seems to be working. gizmoarena
I don't think the problem is related to AppleSMBIOS. If the program doubts if it is a real mac, the program wouldn't run at all. I have no idea about the Olympus' software. So cannot suggest you anything right now. But just in case, use netkas AppleSMBIOS and see what happens. Or, check out if there's a cracked version of your software. best of luck. PS. Don't call them serialized software.
LouCioccio
Thanks. I dl'd the SMBIOS file and it worked. At first I did not think it would as I started Olympus Studio it asked for the serial number again. I entered the serial number hit okay, a pause I thought it was going to come up as "wrong serial" number but NO, it took it. I have 4 different AppleSMBIOS.kext files (I color coded them) in different subfolders. I used Kext Helper to install it. I had used the other files and Studio was the one that balked. Final Cut Express, PSE6 never gave me any problems. So Studio must be odd. Anyway About this Mac identifies the computer as an iMac and shows everything correctly. I had used the Kalyway one that identified it as a MacPro but like I said Studio would not take the serial number. The only new mac I ever bought was a G4 in 2000 and before that I had a Starmax 3000 clone. I just gave that one away to someone who Power Computing Clone bit the dust. I was able to swap her original drive plus gave her another drive and cd-writer that she did not have. I just got a used G5 last year. The hackintosh way was better money wise and is upgradeable like the G5 but MORE so. Thank You

Blabberlicious
Glad to help you. Would anyone care to help a starving photographer obtain a means of using the mac Olympus Master 2 software? I simply can't run to the €90 they want for something that should be free. Adobe already has all my money! Any help greatly appreciated.
