Turn Off Spotlight And Dashboard

Spotlight and Dashboard are cpu and memory eaters. If you got a low score in XBench, turn them off maybe a good choice.

 

To turn spotlight off: (Use root )

Modify file:

/etc/hostconfig

Change the last line from

SPOTLIGHT=-YES-

to

SPOTLIGHT=-NO-

 

Optional:remove the meta file from your harddisk:

mdutil -E /

mdutil -i off /

 

To turn off Dashboard:

 defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

killall Dock

 

Reboot.

 

I feel a little bit better after turn them off. Do you?

No, you don't see it but it's still running. Press F12 and you see wheter it's running or not.

In the special tab thats up the top you can disable/enable dock/finder/spotlight/dashboard and a lot of other cool functions
