MaaseyRacer
For $500 dollar budget get a ASUS V3-P5G33 barebones kit. The board is essentially a P5K-VM (well supported board). That gives you board case and power supply. If you do not like the looks of that one there is also the ASUS P3-P5G33 and the ASUS V2-P5G33. They all use the same board. ASUS V3-P5G33 - $170 Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 - $118 4GB G.Skill RAM DDR2 800 (2x2GB) - $45 EVGA 8400GS - $37 Seagate 640GB SATA HD - $80 Pioneer DVR-216 SATA DVD-RW - $31 Total ~ 481 + shipping (newegg) No matter what you purchase make sure you get SATA drives, both optical and hard drives.
