Booting problems

Hey guys I have this odd problem... My computer has trouble booting from almost every bootcd except windows. It books a little bit into the disc, but then it fails. My theory is that it can initially read the disc, but once it starts it can't detect it anymore.

Here's what happens:

I insert my Kalyway DVD and it boots into the little darwin bootloader thing (Press f8 for options press any key to install osx). If I press any key it brings me it loads for a second and then I get a near-immidiate kernel panic. If I press f8 I notice that it boots from hd (111, 1) or hd (111, 0) (I don't really remember). I find that a bit suspicious...

The same thing happens for Ubuntu 7.10, and GParted Live. They seem to work only in the beginning of the bootage.

I tried swapping my Sata cables around and friggin with my BIOS options but nothing worked. I will BIOS update ASAP and give feedback.

Here are my specs:

ASUS P5Q P45

HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L ATA Device (connected via Sata obviously)

I tried reburning twice and I also used iAtkos 4i but it came up with a similar problem

Thanks everyone!

I got something similar (my topic is following in the list) but I can go to the gray image with an apple and a circle spinning showing the loading. After that, the DVD and the CPU doesn't load anymore (the leds aren't flashing at all)..

I'm using iAtkos v1.0i.

No one really gave me answer now..

*bump* anyone? please?

Continually bumping the thread is pointless unless you have more info. :)

Linux won't boot*, neither will OS X, only Windows works...

Sure sounds like broken BIOS to me. But you haven't said whether you updated your BIOS yet or not ?!?

Save your current BIOS ( in case the update is even more broken ) then update, or even downgrade if the newer versions don't help.

* I'm sure you could get Linux ( maybe OS X ) to boot using flags but that still leaves you with broken BIOS.

Firstly thanks for your suggestion. I think it is a problem with the BIOS but none of asus's bioses fix it (I've tried upgrading, downgrading, etc). I think you need these http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=112033 but unfortunately the website with the URL to it is offline ARGH!!

Secondly, bumping the topic isn't useless because there can always be someone who wasn't on when the thread was originally posted and missed the opportunity altogether to reply to it.

I'm still having this problem guys

I've tried AHCI which didn't work. I've tried modded bios from osrom.net, nothing works

Somebody please help! There are no alternate solutions for me!

Have you tried powering down your PC, disconnecting it from AC, and waiting for about 10 minutes, then removing your video card and your CMOS battery from the MOBO and waiting 30 minutes......then reinstall video card and then CMOS battery......and then reconnecting the PC to AC and rebooting.......then check that BIOS settings are:

Execute Disable Bit [Enabled]

ACPI APIC Support [Enabled]

ACPI Suspend Mode [s3] or [s1] or [s1 and S3]

AHCI [Enabled]

I found the problem, appearantly you need to disable "express gate" for AHCI to work properly with my P5Q. I still got another problem which was solved by the modified DSDT in the from osmod.net. Also iDeneb was the only one that worked...
