I also unselected the iATKOS v7 main package when updating the new drivers... nForce Network controller. This time around it BOOTED :) .. with 4GB of ram installed and everything works great so far. However, I'm unable to get a network connection; the controller pulls a default 169.x ip and if I manually setup the network settings it does not detect a connection.

Glad you got it sorted...... :)

You need to run eno's nForceLAN 0.62.13n.pkg.zip installer for your onboard LAN......see here....also check that nvenet.kext has been removed or renamed to nvenet.kext.*....go to /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/..... (this is a new location. nvenet.kext was not in IONetworkingFamily.kext prior to 10.5.7).

Apple's nvenet.kext causes a problem because it loads even when another Ethernet/LAN driver (kext) has already been loaded.....

Check that apart from nForceLAN.kext that no other Ethernet type kexts are in /S/L/E....the nForceLAN installer should have removed forcedeth.kext and nForceEthernetController.kext but also check for nForceEthernet.kext......

Is there any kind of concensus on what the most successful osx86 distribution is for 750i based boards? I'm not sure if I should keep working on iDeneb dvds or iAtkos, or maybe i should be going in an entirely different direction all together.

Works GREAT! A few bugs to sort out, otherwise it's just a play OS. Haven't used *nix in quite a while and getting use to the commands and installing packages again is a learning experience itself, far better than Windows.

I did update to 10.5.8 and after the restart it loops. Installed the SMBIOS and Chameleon and get the same panic as I had before with multiple SMBIOS installed. Anyway, I'm just installing clean again with no intention to upgrade. Maybe I misunderstood how to apply the settings before the upgrade, no matter... it works as intended with 10.5.7. I'll pass along my thanks when I find time to switch back to Windows.

The siuation is as follows:

It does depend to some extent on the MOBO.....e.g. some are running the 9.6.0 Vanilla kernel on a 750i nForce chipset MOBO e.g. icedtrip and Matthew L. on a Asus P5N-D......perhaps even 9.7.0 as 9.8.0 as of now....

BUT in general

1. You need to set up your BIOS correctly for OS X using the template in post #1......depending on the MOBO you must invariably enable RAID to allow you to enable the SATA controller

2. Temporarily remove one nVidia GFX card until OS X is installed and running

3. Use a USB keyboard and USB mouse for the fewest problems

4. Generally the best combination is PATA (IDE) DVDRW(s) set as Master plus SATA HDD(s)

5. As for installing OS X you can EITHER:

A. Try the Boot-132 CD/HDD/USB stick + Retail DVD approach, which does not as yet work easily/readily with all non-Intel chipset MOBOs......e.g. nForce+Intel.... BUT I have produced an nForceBoot132.iso image that I can successfully run with

CODErd(0,1)/mach_kernel.voodoo -v boot-uuid=10.5.6 Retail DVD uuid

to get into the Retail OS X 10.5.6 DVD installer to install 10.5.6 Retail on a HDD partitioned/formatted as GPT/HFS+, with Chameleon 2.0 RC1 (now RC2 is available) as the HDD bootloader.....

which you can try with your OS X Retail Disk......no guarantees with versions earlier than 10.5.6......

OR

B. Find, obtain and use Kalyway 10.5.2 distro and update using the Mystiquemacus Update Patches, or iPC 10.5.6 Final v1.1 DVD distro and update using the Mystiquemacus Update Patches.......initially installing without video, network and audio drivers......follow my blog install guide.....

Of the distros I have used Kalyway 10.5.2 and iPC 10.5.6 have been the best (clean and stable)......as you can see from my blog.....iATKOS distros can be problematic because in my experience and Mystiquemacus's experience, they tend to change the names of installer packages from the conventional names, causing issues for reapiring permissions and updating smoothly.....

Glad to have helped you get to this point.......using OS X is enjoyable from all angles.... :)

AFAIK some aspects of 10.5.8 are different enough from previous versions so that updating is not always easy peasy.....especially with nForce....... :)

Been playing around and attempted to install an application from the DVD drive to the OSX system,

p1090601l.th.jpg

Off the subject is it possible to modify what Chameleon see's for hard drives? Currently it lists 6 drives/partitions of which I would only like 3 shown.

Many thanks for the PayPal donation, which while not required for my help, is very much appreciated...... :(

What application were you trying to install?

Chameleon 2.0 RC2 inspects all HFS filesystems and will show only those volumes that have SystemVersion.plist or ServerVersion.plist files under System/Library/CoreServices folder and shows bootable Linux volumes and all Windows volumes AFAIK....

There is an issue with Voodoo 1.0 and World of Warcraft.....see here:

World of Warcraft error STATUS: Accepted OS: Leopard 10.5.x WORKAROUND: Revert to Voodoo Kernel Version Alpha 13

Obtain it here......but I do not know if reverting to this deprecated alpha version of Voodoo 9.5.0 will have adverse effects on other aspects of your system operation/performance.....unless you try Voodoo 2.0 alpha 3.....

I'll give that a shot... though seems each time I switch to windows over to osx I lose the nForce adapter settings. This time after installing it i'm unable to obtain a network connection defaulting to 169.x with the same install methods I've done before.

Update:

My fifth reboot after the last install.. removed the preferences/network adaptor from the network readded it and pulled a valid ip.. Also tried time machine, was working before, threw "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found." Ran the nForce pkg from the link you provided restarted and the same error displays. Tried a solution noted here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...093&st=640# (post: 652) but did not resolve the issue. Also, under network interfaces there is no en0... would like to get TM working before changing the kernel.

Try deleting the following .plists in Library -> Preferences -> SystemConfiguration:

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist (may not be present)

com.apple.network.identification.plist

NetworkInterfaces.plist

preferences.plist

What I did to resolve TM, in my case:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...44738&st=20 (Post 37)... then

sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/nForceLAN.kext /System/Library/Extensions/nForceLAN.kext.bad

Then deleted the .bad file

Reinstalled the nFroce pkg located http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=125569

Not sure why I had to do it this way... first attempt I just deleted the NetworkInterfaces.plist restarted and no adapters shown; added them, but the nForce would not pick up a valid IP after several restarts. So the above method seemed to have worked for me.

Post 37... then

The re-install presumably installed forcedeth.kext again.......but running the nForceLAN.kext installer 0.62.13n should have removed forcedeth.kext and nForceEthernetController.kext anyway.......?

Was a typo on my part... should have said nForceLAN.kext, I changed it.

There was I thinking I was the only one making typos........I always have to correct some typos after posting.......either typing to fast or thinking about other posts while typing....... :P

Updated the kernel to Voodoo 2 alpha 3 and same issue with the installation of the wow dvd. Restarted the OS then the keyboard/mouse no longer worked. Booted with the iAktos dvd to launch TM and a full restore then:

boot0: MBR
boot0: MBR
boot0: error

>< ...

I can view read/write to the drive within Vista, just can't boot into OSX after the full restore.

When you do a backup from Time Machine it does not restore the bootloader to the OS X volume that you are restoring to......you may need to use install DVD with just the Chameleon bootloader selected to install the bootloader on the restored OS X volume....BUT start by making the OS X partition active.......see here......

Have been looking for a solution, but got caught up looking for solutions to fix or customize the keys on the Logitech G15 to emulate the mac keyboard. Have LCC installed just doesn't detect "No logitech device found." .. many topics here regarding it but none have a clear solution.

What keys are you attempting to customize?

For installing Voodoo Alpha 13, go to Terminal....

Assuming you have copied the downloaded voodoo_alpha13 file to /.......

In Terminal

cd /
ls

you should see voodoo_alpha13 listed....

sudo mv /voodoo_alpha13 /mach_kernel.voodoo
ls

Repair its permissions

sudo -s
chown root:wheel /mach_kernel.voodoo
chmod 644 /mach_kernel.voodoo
exit

Assuming your current Voodoo kernel is named as mach_kernel.....

Boot with flag

-v mach_kernel.voodoo

then once in OS X modify your /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist....

1. Go to the Terminal, and at the $ prompt, type in

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

2. Enter your password when requested. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the cursor within the Terminal window.

3. Type in (without any spaces anywhere)

mach_kernel.voodoo

between <string> and </string> under <key>Kernel</key>.

4. Move the cursor the Terminal window down until it no longer moves, then press Ctrl-O (i.e. ^O) and then Enter, to save the modified com.apple.Boot.plist file.

5. Press Ctrl-X (i.e. ^X) to Exit and type "exit" at the $ prompt to log out of the Terminal and then close and quit Terminal.

While searching around I noticed an old post you made regarding Slackhack's AppleNForceATA kext

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=167091#

I've installed planetbeing's nForceLAN_0.62.13.kext.zip so I suspect maybe this kext be the problem since I received the identical panic after the update to Voodoo 2 alpha 3? So now I'm trying to locate slackhacks version..

--

As for the keyboard... would like to emulate all the shortcut keys (ctrl+c , ctrl+v ...) . LCC is suppose to do that and manage the Keyboard/Mice buttons, but some odd reason neither are detected in the Control Center. Verified my bios settings and set everything USB related to NON-ISO.

planetbeing's nForceLAN_0.62.13.kext.zip is actually eno's modified kext based on one by planetbeing.....

This is an nForce Ethernet kext which is totally different from the AppleNForceATA kext, whether MeDevil's version or slashack's version.....

So, please clarify what you mean to say.......

As for Logitech keyboard mapping......no suggestions at present.....

I stand corrected...

If I recall I applied slackhacks patch to the DVD itself, is it possible it was not correctly installed even though I'm running this system with 4gb atm?

Hence, you need to use slashack's AppleNForceATA v0.1 kext which supports 64bit memory addressing via an API using getPhysicalSegment64........

If slashack's AppleNForceATA.kext permissions were not set correctly I would expect you to have a kernel panic backtrace pointing to AppleNForceATA....

But if you install a kext using Kext Helper b7, then it permissions should beset correctly.......

Is Voodoo alpha 13 installed now and working OK.......what does typing

uname -a

in Terminal show.....
